Notes: This West Coast-style pale ale is brewed with 80% English barley malts and 20% rye malt. It boasts a massive floral aroma of resinous hops, contributing notes of lemons, peaches and pine needles and is anchored by the sweet malty flavors of toffee and freshly baked pumpernickel bread.

Can into a snifter. Hazy, vibrant gold in appearance topped with about 1.5 fingers of white, sticky foam. Slightly cloudy, but there is still pretty good clarity. Rye spice, earthy grass, citrus, and bready malt on the nose. Big notes of sweet citrus and grapefruit on the taste, accompanied by rye spice and heavy malt on the back end. Very well balanced, and fruitier than I would've guessed. Carbonated, creamy mouthfeel. The aftertaste is dry spice and bready malt.

Overall, this one pleasantly suprised me. I'm not the biggest fan of rye-based ales, but the balance between the spice and fruit made this one of the better ones I've had.

Appearance: An impressive pour, with a foamy meringue of a head that squats atop the cloudy goldenstraw colored liquid

Smell: Gently spicy with a hint of lemon

Taste: Opens biscuity, with a citrusy mix of lemon and white grapefruit developing; in the middle, the peppery and spicy tones from the rye take the beer in another direction; a hint of sweetness underneath

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: I found myself pleasantly surprised by this beer; the rye was handled deftly and added a nice angle to the other tones

Nose: rye spice, spicy malt, pine and citrus.
Bright gold under a 2: rocky head that slowly dissipates to a film. Lacy
Palate: spice, rye, light malts, piney grapefruit rind bitterness on the finish.
Medium full body, medium carbonation. Dry and refreshing.
While definitely not a roggenbier, it has a nice malt emphasis.

I poured a can into a pint glass.

Appearance- Slightly hazy golden color with two fingers worth of foamy head. The heads lingers for a few minutes then slowly fades to a half inch cap and leaves a fair amount of lacing.

Smell- Grapefruit hop aroma with a hint of spiciness.

Taste- Moderate grapefruit and grassy hop bitterness with some rye spiciness and a hint of caramel malt sweetness. It has just enough of a hop presence for flavor but not so much as to be overpowering. The slight spiciness and sweetness add a nice twist.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with an average amount of carbonation. Crisp with a dry finish.

Overall- A good thirst quenching beer. This is one of the better rye beers that I've tried and worth having again.

a decently hazy copper with a decent head that retains and laces well.

some spice, rye toast, and plenty of hops in the aroma. a bit floral.

taste again, is a bit spicy and hoppy. floral, leafy hops cover up some rye toast that is present on the swallow. finishes with some citrus and a bit of peppery spice.

a bit thin and lager crisp mouthfeel with a heavy dose of carbonation and a touch of resin left on the palate.

drinks rather well. Nothing mind-blowing, but pretty solid. A good dose of hops, but not quite a Rye IPA. the Rye Pale Ale designation is pretty accurate. Not bad.

Poured into a pint glass. A hazy auburn color with a bright thick off white heading. Fantastic retention with great lacing globs all the way down the glass.

Amazing floral aroma with a subtle earthiness. Slightest touch of spicey rye kicks in just to surfce. Not as much of a rye chracter as I would have liked.

Taste at first is all malt.Very crisp malts than a heavy green hop bitterness takes over which then turns to this incredible spicey maltiness. Nice balance of crisp malts and floral hops.

Mouth is smooth, bubbley and flat out green. Light medium body, amazing texture and a beautiful liveliness to this brew. Slight butteriness in the mouth.

A great beer not an all out assault with rye but a good tasting brew all together. Underrated in my mind.

12 Ounce brown bottle poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Hazy golden color with maybe a fingers worth of head leaving only a little lacing.

Smell: Citrus scents with a little bit of a sweetness noticeable.

Taste: When you first take the sip there is a citrus bitterness and it almost seems like it will be a very bitter but it goes away and leaves a little bit of a sweetness. The bitterness returns as a slight aftertaste.

A: A grapefruit, or straw color, slightly hazy and a lovely, tall white head on top.

S: Hops right away. Grass and citrus aromas followed up by a nice tropical fruit flavor. A slight caramel scent. Very nice.

T: Lovely hops right out of the gate. Tropical fruits and citrus meld into a nice spicy flavor form the rye. The finish has a nice clean bitterness.

M: Fairly light in mouthfeel, the carbonation is a touch high. The finish is dry with a lingering bitterness.

D: This is definitely a great brew. A nice hoppy kick without being too bitter, and spicy without going overboard. Definitely something I would get again.

12 oz can into flying dog chalice.

A: slightly hazed blonde ale. bright white head is bubbly and big. retention is great. as is the lacing. super sticky. a light body for a rye, but solid looking brew non the less.

S: black pepper. lemon. sweet grain mixes with fruity hop aroma that is pretty appealing.

T: spicy body thanks to the rye gets really bubble-gummy towards the finish. body is a tad bit thin, in my opinion, wouldnt hate for more or a rye presence.

M: carb is tingly and refreshing. light/medium body. certainly doesnt drink like a 6%'er.

D: pretty solid brew. like i said, wouldnt hate for some more body, but otherwise i dont really have any complaints. worth trying for fans of rye beers.

12oz bottle pulled from fridge, allowed to warm a bit. bottled on 07/07/10 stamped on bottle. poured into a standard pint.

pours out a super cloudy golden yellowish color with a one finger of fluffy white head. great sticky lace, and great retention. small bits of sediment. looks like a darker hefe.

mostly oily resinous hops in the aroma. citrus and tropical fruits with some light piney notes. balanced by a nice bready malt. a hint of rye somewhere in there as well.

an explosion of bright resinous oily hops. mostly grapefruit citrus and tropical fruits. a nice bready malt tries to balance, but the hops rule here. just a light rye like spiciness in the background, the spiciness hits more after the sip. lots of lingering hop bitterness.

medium bodied, carbonation is feeling good. a nice drinkable offering for the hop heads alike.

overall: a great pale ale, the rye wasnt huge, but made for an even better pale ale. recommended IMHO and worth atleast a single bottle.

Bottle poured into pint glass.

A- Hazy, murky golden. Big 2 fingers of sticky head. Nice lacing.

S- Piney hops. Spiciness from the rye. Not a huge nose, but nice.

T- An almost equal nice of peppery rye, piney hops, with a bitter citrus hop finish.

M- Medium bodied. Coats the mouth nicely.

O- A pretty good rye beer. Not spectacular, but I'd buy these every now and again if they were in market.

Poured into a Stange.

A: Pale and murky yellow body that has some carbonation and not an insignificant amount of sediment. There is a rocky white head that goes on forever and leaves foamy lacing. It's a little too much. Nothing wrong here, but nothing inviting or appealing either.

S: Very faint. I get a little rye and a little hops. Not much else.

T: I get a little grimace from the flatness of the aftertaste. However, it is a strong taste. Rye, hops and a little citrus. Not bad, but that aftertaste...

M: My favorite part of this beer is the feel. Begins full and well carbonated and ends with a stark dryness. The transition between the two is arresting.

O: A pretty below-average beer that has a good feel and is thankfully not offensive but just bland, making it drinkable and an alright slot filler in a pick-six.
