one thing about the fruit stand beers, im not sure they all have the same base. i know it would be logical to assume they do, but they all seem so different, aside from just the fruit, this one for example, is much more robust and sturdy than the extremely delicate peach version, more malt character, more weight on the palate. anyway, this might be the least impressive (read original) of the ones i have had in this series. it has a gorgeous purple color and a head stained pink with the fruit juice. the nose is puckery before sweet, and i think the fruit is very authentic, real, like actual blackberries. the thing is though, its really minor, where the grape and the peach were so forward with the fruit, this one it takes a back seat to the souring cultures. in the flavor the fruit is real, very good and ripe and fresh obviously, but its again more in the background. blackberry is one of the harder fruits to get to show up in flavor without it being sweet, and this does a really nice job of finding that balance, and the beer really is pretty dry, but unlike the others he does, when i compare this to the best blackberry wild ales out there, its not at the top of the heap. its not far off either, dont get me wrong, this is amazing, but it lacks that intensity i like in a fruited wild ale.

Thanks to dujayhawk for sending this one! Reviewed from (long-standing) notes. Poured from the 750 mL bottle into an El Catador teku glass. Consumed 11/7/16.

A: Purplish and/or reddish brown with a mild haze. A good amount of visible carbonation and a thin off-white head that fades away fairly quickly.

S: Funk – Lactobacillus, Brettanomyces, and I think some Pediococcus - feet, barnyard, mild cheese. Tart acids. Oak tannins seem vinous and dry. Underripe acidic berries and lactic tartness. Very nice.

T: Big tart blackberries up front. Lacto funk - feet and basement. Lactic acid tartness, and dried out with oak tannins. Slight cracker malt sweetness in the middle, then snowed under with more tart and funk. A lingering dry acidic berry after the swallow.

M: A light body, with carbonation sensation on the low side and no alcohol presence to speak of.

O: Really enjoyable. It drinks more like an AWA than a saison - acidic, and more Lacto funk than barnyard or earthy funk. But a nice fruit and oak balance as well. I really need to get some more stuff from these guys.

750ml bottle $21.99 dated 6/2015. Pink color, the head lasted about twenty seconds. Aroma was odd, sort of like cereal. Flavor was fruity, sort of delicate almost, not really sour to my taste, pretty good. This was a nice enough beer but overpriced. I still have three or four more Casey bottles to drink through but I'm sort of surprised people are driving so far and geeking so hard for these beers.

The appearance was of a light reddish-orange color with a somewhat thin yet lasting head. The aroma combined sweet blackberry with a touch of barnyard funk. A nice blend of blackberry sweetness and tartness wita very pleasant sourness soothed the taste buds. Medium body; sharp and tart.

This taste came from a bottle shared by a neighbor. This was a welcome and very tasty, nicely balanced sour.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled 10/29/2014.

Appearance - Hazy grapefruit pink body. Medium white head and a medium collar.

Smell - Grainy. Oak. Light blackberry aroma, but distinctly blackberry. Some citrus, too.

Taste - Lightly tart. A little citrusy. Blackberry lends a pleasant, but light flavor. Grain and oak in the finish. Tart, grapefruit-like finish.

Mouthfeel - High carbonation. Light body. Mild tartness.

Overall - Very nice, but I know how good Casey's saisons should be. This just seems to mask the true quality of the saison with a mild fruit flavor that doesn't really improve on the beer.
