Shared bottle at Churchkey in D.C.

Pours a flat, unclear red with barely any foam.

Smell is intensely sour with notes of cherries, oak and vanilla.

Taste is almost mouthpuckering but pulls back just before becoming vinegar. Notes of cherries, oak, vanilla and almond. Mouthwatering in the best sense of the word and very complex.

Mouthfeel is thin and almost flat.

Overall, a really great fruited sour, up there with the best American sours I've had.

this is still elite level casey beer, but i had it from the tap this go around, and it was a little less complex and dynamic, and the mouthfeel really suffered, this was almost still. i would imagine bottle conditioning is a huge part of what makes these beers so dry, bubbly, mature, and refined in the bottle, and this was not such in the keg, the chemistry of the process must be a little different in this format, and for me, less desireable in this particular instance. the color of this is insane, despite it being flat, a glowing almost neon looking pinkish orangish red, really dense and pretty, no visible sediment at all. aroma here is puckery cherry with a lot of acid, the classic casey funk and bacterial weirdness, clean but so acidic that its a bit harsh to me, pushed even higher by the cherry. the fruit tastes natural and intensely dosed, majorly ripe and juicy, but also with a lot of tartness of its own to contribute. i get slight white wine in the finish, the tannins from the wood, a little cherry pie note, lemony lacto, and a drying but tired brett aspect. seemingly more fruity and a little less complex than other fruit stand beers, even the cherry ones, but i am reluctant to credit this particular cherry with that difference, and suspect the lack of bottle conditioning to be the main culprit. still excellent beer, but bring your tums!

Appearance: berry red and totally opaque; very pretty. There is no head whatsoever. The beer resembles a flat beer poured into a dirty glass. There is a lot of potential if only a head existed.

Aroma: fruit is definitely present in the nose along with funk. The fruit is generic, though. It could as easily be raspberry or blackberry as it is cherry. The funk is present but remains in the background.

Flavor: very sour on the front end – along the lines of vinegar, but finishes very ‘round.’ The cherry flavor is nearly absent. The funk comes in late. Few depths of flavor.

Mouthfeel: heavy-light. In line with what’ss expected given the acidity of this beer.

Overall: disappointing: far from my expectation given Casey’s reputation. This beer seems like a glorified kettle sour, only more attractive. There was so little to this beer in terms of depth, it seems more like a novelty beer – kettle sour – than a serious offering from a brewer reputed to rival some of the better wild ale brewers/blenders in the country.

Pours a deep bright hazy ruby red with a light pink foam head. Nose is tame compared to the colors of this beer. Some sweet cherry preserve as well as other berries. Taste the cherries right away, somewhat tart but the tartness fades to a more mellow and set cherry flavor, almost like a cherry preserve or jam. Light raspberry and strawberries. Fruits dominate this beer as they should being "fruit stand" getting that funky yeast as well as some light Greek yogurt like qualities. It doesn't finish as dry as other Casey sours I've had but it is definitely tart.

Pours a murky rich ruby color with no head to speak of. Nose is tart, but you can get a nice dosage of cherry here. Think tart cherry pie. Flavor is exactly that - tart! not too acidic, but tart.

8/2/16 blend. Very nice carb on the pour (especially given some of these other casey bottles). Taste is rich with cherry goodness, none of that nasty cherry medicinal flavor. The rest of the flavor is spot on for a nice saison, not very tart. Good beer overall

There exist some carbonation issues in some of these, but when you get a good bottle I think this is the best variety cherry fruit stand out there. FWIW I have not had a bad bottle yet.

Sharing a bottle brought back by a friend. Bottled on 8/3/16, Bing(sweet) Cherry. Looks great, smells great, taste great. But there is Zero ( 0!) carbonation. It's like still water. The cork was hard to get out. We have one more bottle to try so hopefully it is good. Love Casey, but this one is missing something.

Really vibrant looking beer. Bright pinkish red in color with some off white head. Retention is minimal. Aroma is big cherry, slight tart. Taste follows, cherry first and big tart finish. Medium-light body, moderate carbonation, slightly dry finish. Really nice brew.
