The Mix: Cherry Funky BlenderThe Mix: Cherry Funky Blender
Notes: Introducing a new line extension, The Mix. These blends will be our way to experiment with different base beers and fruit combos. Blends like East Bank with Apricots, Saison with blackberries and plums, or bourbon barrel fermented Biere de Garde with sweet cherries. This first blend is Cherry Funky Blender. We took the 4 cherry varieties we had left over from the 2016 season and added them to vintage barrels of Funky Blender for refermentation. The result is more acid forward compared to Cherry Fruit Stand. The sweet and sour cherries work great together.

750ml bottle, 5/9/2017, cork and caged. Lighter copper body, slight reddish hue, one finger offwhite head, short retention and no lacing. Tart cherry skin, slightly perfume-y as for whatever reason, Casey beers and cherries tend to bring out. Moderate lemony acidity, light oak, tart. A bit of grain, not much sweetness from the grain otherwise. Mouthfeel is lighter medium bodied, lower in carbonation, a bit tart and dry. Solid cherry wild, although that distinct Casey cherry profile comes out in spades. I'm not all that sure it's too different than say, Fruit Stand, although it does have a little bit more interesting complexity behind it.

this is just great beer, and count me fully on the bandwagon now with casey stuff. this is crazy beer, and even better if you are familiar with some of the threads in the blend. the color is insane, deep pink to bright red, softly hazy, and creamy headed, very lively looking and almost unnatural in its shade. the flavor of the cherries is incredible, almost so intense it cant just be from real fruit, like its so over concentrated and forward, more cherry than a cherry if that makes sense. the sweeter varietals with the sour gives a more complete spectrum of the fruit than any one varietal in isolation ever could, and thats a really cool flavor experience here, uncommonly delicious. it still tastes like lambic at its heart too, even with all the fruit, classic casey funk, wet wood, and a high degree of bacterial acidity that dries the finish right out. its past tart to sour, but its still rather drinkable for how intense it all is. its just so interesting that i cant set my glass down. as the cherry sours these guys have done so far go, this might be my very favorite among them. i think the multiple fruits gives it more depth, and the way it dries out in the end is sensational. really awesome beer here, one of their best yet. i am real excited for whatever else comes out of this the mix series!
