This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and no lacing.

This smells like light pepper spice, fudgy and creamy milk chocolate, and light coffee.

This is about a year and a half old, so the coffee is a tad faded- I wish it was much stronger here. It's still quite chocolatey, with a decent spiciness. It more just feels like a nice chocolate stout at this point.

This is medium bodied, and very creamy, with no hint of the ABV, and a lower level of carbonation.

This was probably much better fresh, but it's still a worthwhile beer to try.

Pours a thick black with minimal tan head.
Smells of dark roast coffee, chocolate, and barrel.
Taste follows with chocolate and coffee, good barrel presence. Very well balanced.
Full bodied, this one has some legs. Smooth and hides the high ABV quite well.
Overall an excellent BA RIS! I had never heard of these guys but this was one hell of a beer!

A big RIS made with Mexican chocolate and Dark Matter coffee, aged in Four Roses barrels. It pours thick and syrupy, with massive legs when swirled, minimal head, and a touch of graininess deposited on the glass once it warms (likely the chocolate). Smells lovely when chilled, a very nice balance between stout, booze, coffee, and chocolate, in that order. After it warms closer to room temperature, the booze and unknown ABV (vintages appear to have ranged from 13.5 to 17.5%, according to the intertrons) come well to the forefront, with some punchier ethyl notes. Very smooth on the tongue, bringing in a touch of chocolate and banana pudding. Really enjoyable.

White wax dripping down to the bottom of the 2017 22 oz. bottle.

Pours a gloopy oil slick black. Minimal head, no lacing. Brown residue costs the glass as the brew is swirled.

Rich booze, coffee, chocolate, vanilla and spice on the nose.

A sugary vanilla and caramel sweetness lies on the taste of this brew.

I can’t quite identify the mouth feel other than the slickness of it because of my recent cold.

22 oz of this brew will be tough to solo dome.

Poured from a bomber into a wine snifter. 2017 edition at 17% ABV.

L: Oily black pour. Thin tannish head... minimal lacing.

S: Rich bourbon... boozy as hell... roast, vanilla, cocoa, and espresso. Did I mention boozy?

T/F: Thick and rich... burned sugars... strong bourbon throughout. Boozy and warming... vanilla and oak character. Nice chocolate and coffee notes. Some roast bitterness for balance. Can't hide that massive ABV, but still surprisingly drinkable. Gets more complex/delicious as it warms.

O: An outstanding bourbon barrel stout. Big, boozy, flavorful... basically an entire session in a glass. Fantastic, and very glad I had the chance to try this one.

Released 11/18/17; drank 1/16/17 @ the Yarchives.

Motor oil black appearance.

A rough pour yielded small, noisy dark khaki head; no lace.

Banana, chocolate syrup, dark roast coffee bean, mild vanilla & faint cinnamon notes in the nose.

Thick, creamy mouthfeel.

Dark roast coffee bean, chocolate syrup & mild cinnamon flavors up front; banana & mild booze heat notes on the finish.

Per Devil's Trumpet instagram post for this release, the actual abv is 17%!! All things considered, this is actually fairly quaff-able; they should put the abv on the bottle though!! A sturdy, tasty RIS. Side note: I'm certain there is some cinnamon in this beer, although no extra ingredients are mentioned.

2017 vintage. Lots of coffee. Great barrel flavor. Black in color. Thick. This is a great BA Stout with a lot of awesome flavors. Super under the radar beer. Worth a try for sure.

Appearance - The beer was a deep rich black color.

Smell - Booze and chocolate malts come through in the nose.

Taste - The malts come through as being almost fudgy. The bourbon aging is very evident. But in the end, that is all there is. There seemed to be oxidation toward the end. This is a pretty one dimensional barrel aged stout, that may have declined rapidly from the original release. There is nothing exciting or original here.

Mouthfeel - Not withstanding the taste, the beer was thick enough to linger. It was not as thick as the style should be.

Overall - Just because a beer is $25 per bottle and has a fest, it is not necessarily good.

Just had this over Memorial Day weekend aged since last year release. Look was dark and motor oil like. The Smell gave it a head start before I even tasted it. This was one of the Top 5 BA Stouts ive ever had and I've had some great ones. The taste was a perfect sweet, bourbon balance. Can't wait for the 2nd release of The Court

A: minimal head that dissipates quickly. Faint lacing on the glass. Dark beer with a thin, mocha head.

S: boozy, heavy coffee and dark chocolate. Much excite.

T: follows the nose. Boozy, chocolate and coffee. The flavors meld together nicely.

F: maybe a bit thin but getting that nice, warming feeling right about now.

O: best DT beer so far. Nicely done.

Update: 2016 version has much more coffee flavor as opposed to the bourbon in the 2015. Very well balanced, slightly lower alcohol and I preferred it to the 2015 (which was really good as well).
