Not retired. NEBCO tap takeover 2016 at Prime 16 in New Haven.

Poured from cask into 10oz glass.

Citra. Citra. Citra.

It is the base hop here, and it combines beautifully with the malt. Low cask carbonation. Juice. Hype, deserved.

Gravity cask into a pint glass at Prime 16 during the NEBCO tap takeover 2013. Enjoyed side-by-side with regular FBD on tap.

A: Muddy orange body with only a thin cap of off-white bubbles. Uninspiring, but the turbidity promises intense hoppiness so I won't hold it against the beer.

S: Regular FBD is a solid 5 in this category, and the cask version - despite extra dry hops - suffers just a bit due to the relative lack of aroma-releasing carbonation. Once the glass is 2/3 empty and can be swirled strongly, though, it smells divine: juicy, herbal, citrusy, and just amazing. Fresh-squeezed orange juice coating sticky pine sap. As close as you can get to smelling a raw hop cone. Fantastic.

T: Even better than the aroma, and maybe a touch better here than the regular. The hop flavors positively coat my tongue, delivering wave after wave of dank, juicy goodness. Tons of orange, grapefruit, and raw hop leaf. Smooth, cleanly bitter finish. Terribly drinkable, delightfully tasty.

M: A little oily, lightly carbonated. Pleasantly intense for the style.

O: How could this not have been delicious? Was it a major improvement over the regular beer, though? No. Perhaps it's simply that FBD is too good already to be made any better. Yeah, that must be it.

Cheers!

Having on cask at the takeover at prime 16.

Pours a kind of still hazy yellow. Really nice look.

Smell is awesome! Favorite characteristic of this beer. Crisp and citrusy, strong citrus aromas.

Taste is awesome and very similar to the Reginald FBD. Citrus blast from the outset really delicious. Orange and grapefruit come out strong, not too bitter. Perfect for an ipa.

Mouthfeel was the slight downside here (not an insult to this at all). Smooth which was great but the slight lack of carbonation slightly took away from the beer.

Overall a great beer, the event is great so far and always looking forward to NEBCOs brews!
