No date on the can.

Appearance: Black body with a thin film of tan suds.

Aroma: Vibrant toasted malt with hints of toffee.

Taste: Follows the nose but the sweetness from the toasty/nutty malt bill is sliced through by a good dosing of bitterness from the hops. Some darker malt tones in there of roasted barley, but nothing harsh. Finish is light and hoppy. Aftertaste of bitterness and toasty flavor. Nice depth for 5% ABV.

Mouthfeel: Between thin and medium in body with assertive carbonation. Average drinkability for a dark lager. Probably a decent session choice for it's depth.

Final Thoughts: Definitely an enjoyable lager from a unique local brewery. This might be the best thing I've had from them and easily the best fit with the style they were shooting for. Would I drink it again? Sure.

A-Dark Brown...minimal head

S-Light roasted malts, vanilla, caramel creme..j

T-I find this plenty roasty despite the description on the can. Not getting much hop impression at all which is fine as I don't expect it or need it in this style. Chocolate, light java, light vanilla, light caramel..

F-Feels right for the style. Not big or full bodied....drinks like it is should....body slightly bigger than a dark lager.

O-Impressed with this. A beer loaded with flavor but not ABV.

Enjoyed on tap, this pours near-black with a slight tan head that leaves plenty of lacing.
Aroma is led by the malt: caramel and brown bread with hints of dark sugar and spice. A hint of fruitiness.
Tasty brew. Follows the nose, malt forward with sweet whole grain, toffee, a bit of nuttiness and herbal and spice from the hops. A nice bittering finish. A touch of dark fruit as it warms.
Medium and crisp.
Well executed.

Aroma of light roast, burnt caramel and dark fruit. Flavor profile is nice but on the lighter side, with chocolate, caramel, roasted notes, dark fruit and a light floral finish. The body is fairly light but quite creamy, which would be great with a little more carbonation and a crisper finish. A lingering aftertaste detracts a little. Decent Schwarzbier, but could use just a little more oomph.

Pours a clear mahogany colour. Smells like caramel and bready malts, and toasty grains. Tastes light and crisp overall, not much upfront but a nice toasty bunt grain finish. Clean dry afterpalate.

had on tap at the Pig n Fiddle. L: Pours pitch black with a thin tan head that produces thin sheets of lace. S: Light grains, light roast, debittered dark malt. T: A very creamy palate features grain, dark malt, traces of dark fruit, medium low very mild chocolate, no harsh or burnt roast flavors, clean fermentation flavors. F: Medium to medium light body, medium carbonation. O: A very tasty, easy to drink Schwartzbier.

Poured from a 12 oz. can into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a dark brownish amber with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of tan head which fades into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: A roasty, nutty, and fairly sweet malt forward aroma with hints of chocolate, coffee, and hazelnuts. Roasted barley malt with hints of dark chocolate, coffee beans, hazelnut, toasted bread, biscuit, caramel, toffee, and yeast. Also some sweet hints of brown sugar along with some vanilla and cream. Subtle hints of earthy hops. A really solid nutty aroma.

Taste: Like the smell, a nicely roasty, nutty, and sweet dark malt driven taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, and hazelnut. Roasted barley malt with upfront notes of dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, hazelnuts, toast, caramel, toffee, biscuit, yeast, and smoke. Sweet presence of brown sugar. Also some notes of vanilla and cream. Subtle background notes of earthy hops. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Creamy, silky, and very smooth.

Overall: A really good take on the Schwarzbier style. Lively roast and nut flavors with a very smooth creamy body.

12 oz can purchased and consumed in Minneapolis.

Pours dark brown and near opaque. Good but not excellent head and lacing.

Near medium body with medium carbonation. Smooth albeit a bit lively.

Appealing but mild aroma. I wish it was a little bit stronger.

The flavor has more than adequate strength, and no detectable defects, although it lacks complexity as is typical for style.

O: a fine version of the style. Be sure not to serve this too cold.
