Nicely balanced Marzen. Solid malt backbone of bread, caramel, biscuit and cherry. Decent level of noble hop spiciness and bitterness at the crisp, dry finish. Some light citrus notes as well. Very well executed overall and balances the sweet and the bitter better than most Marzens. Actually, it is kind of a cross between a Marzen and a Festbier.

L: Pours brilliant copper orange producing a 2” cream colored persistent, clingy foam cap. The cap takes 3 minutes to dissipate to a thick, sudsy film.

S: Malty, bread crust nose with herbal spice perfume. Clean fermentation character, no DMS or diacetyl, no fruit. Medium malt and medium low hop aromas.

T: Big creamy malt flavors with a light kettle sugar sweetness. Caramel flavors border on butterscotch. Malt forward with medium malt, medium low hops, low bitterness. Clean fermentation character.

F: Medium body, medium, low carbonation.

O: A well made, easy to drink Oktoberfest.

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours a deep amber orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Big three finger off white head with decent retention.

Smell: A bready, toasty, and sweet malt forward aroma with hints of caramel, biscuit, and grains. Upfront presence of bready malt with hints of grains, biscuit, caramel, toffee, cracker, and lager yeast. Subtle backing hints of floral and grassy hops. A pretty solid Marzen style aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a toasty, bready, and sweet malt driven taste with notes of biscuit, grains, and caramel. Upfront bready taste of malt with notes of biscuit, grains, caramel, toffee, cracker, and lager yeast. Light background presence of floral and grassy hops. Mildy sweet. A solid malty taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy and very smooth with a fairly drying finish.

Overall: A very solid take on a Marzen style lager. Good crisp taste of bready caramel malt.

Another example of why Bauhaus is a rock solid brewery. It's traditional, but fresh; thanks to the lack of trans-Atlantic shipping. It's big on bready caramel, with hints of toffee and candies apple. The finish is balanced with an edge of herbal hops. I'll have another.

Pleasant fall seasonal that possesses fine hop aroma and clean malt flavors. I get some floral hop flavors to go along with the Vienna and pilsner malt. More of a festbier instead of a marzen. Appreciate it is not too high in alcohol. Definitely another fine fall drinker available in the market.

Perfumey, fruity, spicy aroma. A touch phenolic. Bready and a touch earthy. Caramel, apricots, toasted bread, oranges. Herbal, fruity hops.

Pours clear copper with decent-sized off-white head. Decent retention, good lacing.

Flavor leads with bigger malt character. Caramel and toast. Oranges. Balancing bitter hops, somewhat spicy.

Juicy and full. Medium full body with medium low carbonation. Somewhat rich but finishes dry with linger bitterness.

Though a touch phenolic, otherwise a pretty good representation of the style. Not under-hopped, overly sweet, and doesn't lack malt complexity like many domestic versions of the style.

This beers stays with the trend of making beers that appeal to my sensibilities. The nice lager character stands out on this one. So clean and smooth. What a great mouthfeel. Darker than many for this style (a brown version of garnet) with a solid almost tan head. Rich, but not over the top, malt character in both the taste and aroma. Nice toasty taste. Some dense bread and a bit of sweetness. A slight yeasty taste show as well. Blends just fine. Subtle hops but really in the background, overall. Some soft drying on the finish and a slight lingering of bitterness.

A-clear copper. Minimal head to head. Stays at a slick.
S- clean on the nose. Malty and a little sweet, but quite mild aroma.
T- malty, sweet, bready, a wee bit of fruity mess. Definitely better as it warms a touch.
M- fairly long finish which is nice. Not particularly smooth. Found the carbonation a bit harsh.
O- a decent Octoberfest, but not outstanding. I've enjoyed several of their beers but I don't think this quite lives up to, say, Stargrazer or Wagon Party.
