Had on-tap in Ireland. Poured into a pint glass.

L: Jet black pour with a classic Irish nitro stout head. Thick and creamy.

S: Roasted malts... faint espresso.

T/F: Very similar to the other Irish Dry Stouts I've tried... and very close to a Guinness. Smooth and creamy. Great mouthfeel. Taste is milder... roasted malts, some coffee and cocoa notes. Inoffensive but nothing super exciting either.

O: Another dry Irish Stout. Very good fresh and on-tap... and virtually indistinguishable from the other big-boy players in the style. Maybe an ooch sweeter... maybe? Not a bad pint.

Similar to its competitor, Guinness. A tad less watery

L Very dark red with a nice head that remains well.
S Hint of a grainy, biscuityou aroma with a slight chocolate hint.
T grainy rye note and a hint of coffee or chocalate. I rye flavor is what I find interesting compared to Guinness or Murphy'so stout.
F full, smooth mouthfeel. Great.
O a nice Irish Dry Stout with a more prominent rye flavor that separates it from the other leading stouts in Ireland. Very nice.

Comes in dark, but also thin. Brown mostly. 4/5" beige head. Looks pretty. Tad bit of peaty smoke in the aroma with a small amount of roast.

Extremely thin mouthfeel. Creamy and smooth though, still drops some smoke on you. Really doesn't come across all that dry for style. The cost seems high, maybe its the widget stuff, but aside from its nice appearance, this one doesn't do much for me.

MJ's 1999 "Guide" gave it 2.5 of 4 stars and called it "chocolatey and the least dry among Irish stouts in this style.

Much bitter than guinness, more on the coffee and more subtle and complex. A bit on the cocoa and the caramel. Best enjoyed in a pub in Ireland. Cheers!
