Bottle from LCBO. Yes iit tastes like hibiscus tea in a beer. A certain tartness but not the right type to be interesting. A very light shade of pink and lace owing to freshness.

500 mL bottle nabbed at the brewery early last month and kept refrigerated ever since; listed at 4.8% and best before Feb 28 2016. Served slightly chilled.

Pours a foggy golden-amber colour, with roughly one finger of frothy white head seated atop. It fizzles off over the next three minutes, leaving behind a thin, foamy collar located just underneath a modest-sized ring of lacing. It has an approachable aroma that includes a mixture of Belgian yeast, fruity esters and spice. Apricot, red apple and juicy mandarin orange come to mind, with leafy, flowery, herbal hibiscus, a touch of clove, and just a slight hint of tart berries. Very nice so far.

Grainy pale malt sweetness, together with fruity flavours of red apple, orange and apricot, get this farmhouse ale started off on the proper footing. It's lightly grassy, with big floral notes of hibiscus and leafy, herbal tisane penetrating much of the profile. This bitterness continues to linger into the finish, along with hints of spicy clove and yeast. Just a suggestion of tartness in the aftertaste, imparting notions of berries or ripe, juicy stone fruit. Light-bodied, with gentle carbonation levels that result in a smooth, lightly prickly mouthfeel. Goes down the hatch with little effort; this ale is well-balanced and tasty enough to be considered a worthy session option.

Final Grade: 3.86, a B+. Royal City's Hibiscus Saison is quite the solid farmhouse ale. While the base beer itself isn't anything too remarkable, the added hibiscus tea blends in beautifully, providing enough depth for me to want to drink this again in the future. A well-constructed, sessionable twist on one of the most popular Belgian beer styles - give it a chance, and I doubt that you'll be disappointed.

Best before Oct. 1, 2016.

Looks a bit pinkish when pouring but more honey gold in the glass; thick white head that lasts long. Floral aroma with spices. Taste is light, flowery and herbal spiciness. Very nice.

Kind of in a rush for this review. Low carbonation in body, slightly pinkish blonde, decent head but didn't lace or retain. Smell is a weak herbal smell that warming didn't improve. Taste is light with mild lemony malt giving way to flower and berries with a bit of a watery herbal ending. The beer is fairly lacklustre on the carbonation front, and is a bit too watered down, but it is refreshing, light and settles down well.

Poured into a pint glass. A pale hazy orange topped with a thin head that soon diminishes to a ring. Some patchy lacing.
Fruity floral notes in the nose. Slightly citrusy.
The hibiscus comes through in the taste. Very reminiscent of Dieu Du Ciel’s Rosée D'hibiscus, and that’s a good thing. A very mild astringent brett finish.
A very light and crisp mouthfeel
All in all it is rather unusual for a saison. It lacks some saison features such as a big head, but scores high in other areas such a s alight body and a fairly low ABV. You could actually drink this on a hot day and then keep on farming!

A hazy yellow body, but with a huge head and lovely lacing. Floral and herbal notes, very light on the tongue. Tasty and pleasant, slightly muddled, earthy close.

Pleasant, but nothing special. Thankfully the hibiscus doesn't overpower, and it ends up being a very drinkable beer, but not an exciting one. Got a hint of tartness, but not in a complex way. Probably your non-beer friends will like it.

500ml bottle. Served cold in a nonic pint.

Nice pinkish hue from the hibiscus. Looks like a saison should, though the head is pretty much nonexistent.

Aroma is spicy saison yeast and vinous malt. I'm picking up only the faintest hint of hibiscus.

This tastes wonderful. Seriously, the hibiscus complements the other elements of this otherwise basic saison recipe much better than some other fruit adjuncts might have. There's a really luscious, "give me more" thirst-quenching quality to this that reminds me of drinking agua de jamaica on a hot day in Mexico.

Light and refreshing. Perhaps a little bit lacking in that effervescent, champagne-like carbonation you'd expect from a saison.

I liked this one a lot. It's hard to imagine enjoying most of the boozy, horsy-smelling, or too-aggressively hopped saisons that are now out there for refreshment during a hard day's farm labour in mid-summer, which is how these beers were originally meant to be consumed, but this one would really hit the spot.
