Drunken Vigils awakens the palate with a hint of porridge from oats and traditional floor malted grains. Caramel and roasted malts with Ecuadorian Cacao create rich notes of nougat and bitter dark chocolate. Locally roasted java from Cactus Creek Coffee completes an array of breakfast nostalgia. Bourbon and Monastery yeast compliment with decadent caramel and dark stone fruit flavors. Barrel staves also impart a warming whiskey character. Drunken Vigils is the perfect morning libation while on the front porch awaiting spring.

Purchased this bottle during a recent visit to Asheville. Enjoying it with scrabble on a sesame bagel on a cold clear Saturday morning.
Poured into a plastic tulip. Oily dark brown color with a brief effervescent brown head and some lacing. Smell and taste of dark roast coffee, vanilla and dark bitter chocolate. Caramel and roasted malt! Complex and layered with warming. Booziness subtle but comes out more as it warms. Comforting, warming and satisfying. Excellent breakfast stout, especially on a cold Texas morning!

Pours a black no light coming through on this stormy day anyway. Small thumb sized coco head is dense and falls slowly. Only light lace but to be expected at this abv.
Aroma is nice sweet more so then coffee which is what I was expecting, loads of caramel, fruit notes, vanilla, maple and chocolate underneath. But also good smooth bourbon notes that actually may be sweet too they are so smooth just flavor no hotness that's saying a lot for this big beer. Last but not least we do have the coffee which you would expect ins breakfast stout, it is all blended so perfectly together.
Taste is like the nose so smooth, big sweetness without being cloying at all. Caramel, vanillas, maple fruit notes chocolate just the right amount of bourbon notes mixed with coffee in the finish. Damn this is so easy drinking drinks like an 8% brew, no real hop notes but they have to be there to keep it from being overly sweet.
Mouthfeel is big and chewy and so damn smooth the carbonation is just enough without being anymore.
Overall wasn't expecting perfection as I am not sure I have even heard of this until I picked it up, hell not even sure where I got it from. But if I ever see it again I will be buying more that's for damn sure.

First time for me with this beer. Haven't posted in a while, but this beer is special.
A great combo of a sweet syrup like Southern Tier Choklat mixed with maybe a BCBS or something better!

Thanks for this one, Wil!
Black body with a thin layer of dark mocha foam that audibly fizzles away quickly, leaving no lace behind.
Aroma is roasty with a light acidic berry note, lightly woody with trace vanilla and coffee.
Taste is tart with an acidic edge, with a thin bodied feel and metallic note. All telltale signs of infection, unfortunately.
Flavors of coffee, chocolate, and oak are all there, but muted by the acidic and metallic notes. Finishes dry and roasty.
It's not completely undrinkable, but the balance is thrown out of whack.
I was really looking forward to this, but unfortunately an infection has taken hold. Just a heads up.

So smooth. Despite the high ABV it is not boozy in the slightest. Coffee flavor is not overpowering, but perfectly balanced.
