Box-O-Barleywine is a beautiful, golden elixir that screams you’ve got class and style. Sweet malts and honey create a decadent canvas for its luscious array of New World flavors. Exotic hops from New Zealand like Rakau, Wakatu, and Nelson Sauvin enchantingly entice you to savor its apricot, plum, zested lime, and crisp white wine flavors. Fermented with Riesling wine yeast, the fruity and floral esters will give you an added air of sophistication. Finished on French oak, the bittersweet complexity of this beer requires no corkscrew or bottle opener to enjoy, befitting of a Box-O-Barleywine.

This crystal clear, gold brew has a thin head that runs away without a trace. The smell of yeast, wine grapes and oak tell what tastes will follow. A sweet, boozy, wine and oak flavor somehow works with the bitter finish. Definitely tastes like the Riesling of beers.

A: Pours a relatively clear golden honey in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and moderate amber colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy light beige head that reduces to a couple of small patches of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of sweet toffee + caramel malts followed by moderate aromas of honey sweetness. There is also a moderate aroma of light fruits (apricot, peach, and green grapes). Finally there is a hint of oak and vinous white wine aromas in the finish.
T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of sweet toffee + caramel malts followed by moderate amounts of honey sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of light fruits (apricot, peach, and green grapes), plum, oak, and vinous white wine. Light to moderate flavors of citrus/lime zest and earthy hops which contribute a moderate amount of bitterness which fades away leaving a lingering honey + fruity sweetness.
M: Medium to full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light hints of alcohol warming in the finish.
O: I really enjoyed this beer (though I'm not surprised because I have enjoyed almost every one of the limited offerings from this brewery). I thought adding wine elements to a barleywine to be inventive + successful (and generated a humorous name). Enjoyable and hides the alcohol well from the taste and smell. Would definitely get this one again.

Came a honey color with a thick quicker to fade white head atop.Tropical fruits and big sweet alcohol in the nose, some yeasty esters as well.Yeasty spiced flavors upfront on the palate than a splash of overripe tropical fruits and sugary sweetness,I do get that reisling quality in the back end. It's big and brash but it's a pleasure to drink,a nice take on an American Barleywine here.

The description is accurate, this is one good looking beer. Pours a clear light orange/dark gold. Carbonation a little on the lighter side, head can't linger with this high ABV. Aroma is a little fruity/boozy thing like you'd expect in a barleywine. A lot going on when you take a sip. A little sweetness, lots of booze, and a chewy feel to the beer are there along with some bitterness and a hint of tropical hops. You can also detect some grainy taste under the booze. This one is a sipper, which means in a tall can you can expect to drink this straight out of the fridge and let the beer warm up as you sip away and take in the changing flavor. Speaking of the tall can, probably not the best vehicle for this strong of a beer but I guess it means you can split it with someone and both walk away with a fun ride of a beer. Overall a great barleywine that's certainly different and creative, and certainly worth checking out.

Look: It pours golden with a slightly off white head. There is low head retention.
Smell: There is a strong malt aroma that is mixed with a strong spice aroma. The malt flavor is a bit smokey and a sweetness to it. There are some aromas of dark fruit, dried cherries. As it warm a bit of plums comes through and the sweetness grows. The taste has a mixed of smoke and fruits. The smokey flavor is blended with a grainy sweet flavor with dried cherries and some dark fruits. There is a slight bit of honey in the background. It also has some background hints of floral and citrus as well.
Feel: In spite of the high ABV, it has a moderate feel that is towards the full body side. The sweetness in the finish is long lasting especially with the fruity esters. There is some alcohol warming.
Overall, this is a unique barleywine as most are darker and feature a full bodied and chewy feel to it. It also is a bit sweet, but not cloying and certainly not harsh in spite of the alcohol content.
