All I can say about this Pub is WOW! What a Gem. This is a regular stop on one of my favorite circular walks when in England, which takes us from Marsden over the moors, through Dobcross and back to our start, via Diggle, some 24 miles later.
This is the first refreshment stop, and it is of legendary status. Set in the gorgeously beautiful and stunning setting of the unspoilt Village of Dobcross, a stone built village, the Swan Inn (sometimes referred to as the 'Top House' by Villagers) is situated next to the Village Square with its set Stone. Originally built around 1765, for the Wrigley family, it would not be until 1891 that William Wrigley would leave for Chicago to launch his JuicyFruit© two years later and make his fortune. Located on a corner, it has a small stone patio outside with some tables & chairs which it shares with a nicely preserved ‘K6 Jubilee’ - the classic old style red public telephone box, which really adds to the ambience and beauty of this Pub.
This is a much welcomed pit stop for liquid refreshments and a sit down on our walk. Inside lies a marvelous, somewhat dark, stone floored, multi-roomed, wood paneled interior. It is easy to get lost in here when going to the Toilets. Thankfully, it also includes a no-smoking room.
Beer range makes you want to stop for a Gallon, though we always restrict ourselves to just the 1 Pint when walking, well maybe 2 (such a shame!). Carries at least 8 Real Ales. Regular beers are Theakstons Best Bitter & Mild (rare and very good) as well as the oft seen Moorhouses Pendle Witches Brew. It also always has several beers from the Phoenix Brewery, usually including at least the Best Bitter, Thirsty Moon and Wobbly Bob. I used to loathe Phoenix Brewery, but I have to admit their beers have improved immeasurably over the last 3-4 years and they are now a firm favorite of mine. Other ever changing Guest beers also complement the range. Service is good but it can get very busy. We always sit outside when it’s nice, and just absorb the beautiful scenery with beer in hand.
Serves Food, but to be honest, I have always cracked open my knapsack and eaten my own sandwiches when walking - so no first hand reports. Others tell me it is first rate. The food that I have seen being served to others, always looks great and the home made Indian Curries smell awesome.

Superb, a Real Village Local and a little known Gem.
I miss walking in England, and I miss this Pub even more.
