Vibe is eh, the store is small, sparsely decorated, mostly just racks of beer. Which makes it nice to drop in and grab what you want, but doesn't make you want to stay long. Staff seemed knowledgeable and somewhat friendly. Selection, though, certainly made up for everything else. Really good selection of local and bigger national brands.
Timing can be weird with them, though. My wife stopped by one day when they said they would have an event selling some beers they had stashed away or recently gotten in. They started to sell the bottles well in advance of the time they had set on their Facebook event, and while they still had some when the event time started, if the craft scene grows in Harrisonburg this lack of timeliness could cause future problems.
Visited Harrisonburg and stumbled upon this shop. Nice clean shop with a good selection. I asked for advice on an IPA verse a stout I was wanting to try and the manager was honest with me and said the IPA I chose wasn't the freshest and that I would love the stout. I loved the stout and really appreciated his honesty, can't ask for more.
Midtowne Market is the best place in the area to find great beer! The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable. They do a great job keeping their Facebook page up-to-date, so you always know when new releases and small allotments are available. We enjoy their Thursday tastings, too!
Stopped by Midtowne to pickup some take home brews a few months ago while visiting the local breweries in the area. Outstanding selection and the staff member working was very pleasant. A must stop if you are in the area looking for those hard to find craft beers.
They have the best selection and best prices in the valley. Their store is easy to shop with helpful and knowledgeable staff. Just wish I lived closer... Or maybe I dont, id be broke. I also love their loyalty program!
One of the best bottle shops in VA. Excellent sour selection including Tilquin, BFM vintages, Avery barrel aged series, ect. They also get the standard special releases like Bourbon County, Hop Slam, ect and some not so available local releases like Resolute. It is true that the staff don't clap their hands or give me hugs when I walk in but they know their stuff and are overall awesome people. I love this place
My favorite craft beer store and not just because it's my local craft beer store. The selection is always outstanding and new/rare beers always pop up at Midtowne first. It's not a warehouse, so don't expect everything available to indiscriminately be thrown up on the shelf. Instead the buyer spends endless time tasting and selects outstanding examples from every style. Definitely not afraid to get weird either, the out limits of the beer world are well represented.
The whole staff is really knowledgable and speak about craft beer with excitement, not pretension. I've been surprised at times how well they remember my preferences and make recommendations for beers I end up loving but may not have reached for on my own.
My favorite place to get beer in my hometown. The selection is great as well as the helpful folks who run the place. Whenever I'm back home, I don't even think to stop anywhere else. The tap selection is always great too. Keep an eye on their Facebook page if you want to get in on some good releases!
Selection is good enough. With the same available brews as all other local beer shops, they seem to do a better job of getting some better releases in. It's a shame that the employees ruin that. I've been in several times, and each time the employees are too busy watching Seinfeld, or playing on their phones to notice someone in the shop, let alone interact with them. It's as if wanting to buy something is a burden to them. They sigh, fix their wide brimmed glasses, flip their hair out of the way, jam their iPhone back into their skinny jeans, then reluctantly come to the register. While in there with a very obviously pregnant wife, she asked to use the bathroom. She was told that the restroom (communal for the building, not even part of the shop) is where they keep their paperwork.
It's a damn shame. They get decent beer, and I would totally shop there if the people working there gave a damn about the customers.
A really nice clean and brightly laid out store. Atmosphere is pretty bright, simple white walls, but the shelves and coolers are clean and very nicely laid out. Leaves much room for the beers to shine and be noticeable.
It's a fairly small store, so selection is fairly decent but not particularly large. They keep a good selection of locals though which include a good amount of nearby Virginia breweries. Staff is very knowledgeable and also helpful to boot. Growler fills are available too as well, about 5-7 taps.
A nearby parking garage is available for ample parking that's free most of the time on the second level. Worth seeking out to check for anything new or interesting off the beaten path if in the area.
Simply the best. The small bottle shop that has the largest selection in the valley. All the staff are beer geeks and know their stuff. The taps for growler/grunt/gnat fills are always changing to a diverse offering.
This place is a no-brainer for buying beer in the burg. Decent selection of 6ers, some bombers, and taps for growler fills. Prices are ok, a little higher than my fave shops in the DMV, but not always displayed. With craft beer being so range-y, this is a big peeve of mine. I've enjoyed putting together mixed 6ers from the coolers of singles, but the selection was thinned out. Service is available, but not always enthusiastic. Maybe you have to know the secret handshake.
Nice bottle shop in downtown Harrisonburg. The staff is nice, attentive and have a good knowledge of beer. They are always willing to help and answer any questions you have. If they don't know the answer they will tell you that they do not know and not try to BS an answer.
There are a few rotating taps that you can get growler fills of in 16oz, 32oz and 64oz sizes.
By far the best place in a 60 mile radius to buy beer. Lauren gets all the limited releases, and gives everyone a fair chance to purchase them. They also have 8 tap lines for growler fills, and put some great beers on at an excellent price. The staff is also incredibly friendly and helpful. Midtowne is a great spot in a very convenient location in downtown Harrisonburg.
