It's a tasty Pale Ale, one of my staples in Japan. There's a nice citrus nose to it and the head is an off white. Really good with karaage!

Hazy orange color with off-white head. In the aroma you get sweet tangerines and other citrus fruits. Taste is also sweet and fruity at first and gets more balanced and slightly bitter with grapefruit notes on the finish. Medium body with a good amount of carbonation. Overall it's a decent, easy to drink pale ale.

On tap at the Harajuku taproom in Tokyo, Japan.

Medium copper-yellow body. Not much retention or lacing. Smells of moderately fruity grapefruit, mild grainy sweetness, a bit of tapioca. The flavour is similar, but balanced by a slight rind bitterness. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, but very drinkable. More than a solid APA that drinks fairly well and I would use this as one of my go-to's if I were an expat in Japan.

Pours a cloudy, copper color. 2/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of tea, pine, hops, sweet malt, slight spice, hint of alcohol, and a hint of caramel malt. Fits the style of an American Pale Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, slight caramel malt, hops, pine, tea, hint of pale malt, and a hint of spice. Overall, good appearance and aroma, body and blend are more muted, so an average APA.

330 ml bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/20/2014. Labeled as 5.5%. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, apple, peach, apricot, mango, light pepper/pine, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/earthy hops, fruity yeast, and bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, apple, peach, apricot, mango, light pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal/piney bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, peach, apricot, mango, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness, complexity, and balance of citrus/earthy hops, fruity yeast, and bready malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Fair amount of dryness after the finish from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp/sticky, and slightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice American pale ale style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/earthy hops, fruity yeast, and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. Even with the obvious English yeast counterpart, I feel this still fits the American style with it’s citrus and tropical flavors. A very enjoyable offering.

Format: a very solid dark brown 360mL bottle with a fancy label - looks like a piece of art. Very different to the package shown on BA...

Appearance: pours a slightly hazy and solid yellow in colour with a half-finger of off-white head that drops to a thin cap.

Aroma: citrus, nuts, biscuit malts and a touch of some other florals or fruit. Perhaps berries? Good spread of flavours but smells a bit flat, stopping it from rating a 4.

Taste: lots of the flavours from the nose, with that berry flavour fairly strong too. Edit: Thanks to @metter98 - it is gooseberries! Pretty decent here, and somewhat smooth.

Aftertaste: hop bitterness as expected, with some of the hop flavour hanging about.

Mouth feel: the feel is moderate but watery, with fuller carbonation. I think the watery feel causes the flatness in the aroma and the mouth.

Overall: this is a decent and drinkable APA - pretty standard but with a bit of extra florals to make it a bit different. It is, however, AU$160 for a case of 24. What the hell?? The price of Baird Brewing beers are completely out of this world - this is the third I have had, and none of them are mind-blowing, but each is well and truly over $130 a case. Not worth it.
