Had this one on tap at Tadg's in Kyoto, Japan. It was served a medium copper body, half finger white head, fair retention. Smelled fairly malty, not too much hop character but on the palate it was balanced nicely with a toffee malt base, a bit of non-descript bitterness, maybe a bit of earthiness. A bit bland to be honest; maybe a bit of citrus and honey. I suspect that this might have been an older keg or a bad line. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, a bit lower in carbonation. Overall, seems to be missing a fair amount of flavour and hop aromas here despite being reasonably balanced and not too malty. I suspect a bad line. I'll have to revisit this one next time I visit Japan, for now I'll leave this as is.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/13/2015. Pours moderate hazy/cloudy deep orange/copper color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apple, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/earthy hops, fruity yeast, and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apple, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon/orange peel, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice robustness, complexity, and balance of citrus/tropical/earthy hops, fruity yeast, and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Fair amount of dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky, and lightly creamy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice DIPA style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/earthy hops, fruity yeast, and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours a vibrant burnt orange with frothy off-white head. Nose is fairly subdued, mostly floral notes, a bit of light stone fruit there too, peaches and nectarines. Taste is much more bold, the beer takes on a distinct herbal characteristic, almost a lemongrass type flavour, a touch of lemonade/limeade with a sugary sweetness. A very complex hop-profile. There's a nice spicy bitter hop-kick to round out the beer. Feel is right on, medium body, good carbonation.

Overall, a really enjoyable beer. Definitely a different approach than most of the North American IPA's I've had recently. Would really pair well with food.

Just an above-average IPA in my opinion. Great tasting and enjoyable, just nothing unique to set it apart from the rest.
