16oz canned 5/13/20, opened 6/25/20.
2 finger white head with very good retention. Fresh, patchy lacing left behind.
Pale yellow/golden opaque NEIPA.
Orange Julius nose...oranges and cream. Mango, berries, glazed doughnut / doughy malt.
Zesty orange peel, some bitter citrus rind like quality that plays well.
Citrus first but definitely some tropical (pineapple/mango) flavors apparent.
Light to medium body. Medium carbonation. Lengthy citrus and woodsy/pine-like bitter, dry finish.
Very Good.

Pours a very cloudy yellow color with a finger width foamy head. Head retention is mild and lacing is good. Nice, citrus, juicy aroma with some definite tropical undertones. Decent juicy tropical citrus taste. Small amount of pineapple. Decent piney bitterness at the end. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

From a 16oz can:

Appearance: Cloudy yellow, good head.

Smell: Nice mixed fruit aroma.

Taste: Moderate sweetness, tropical fruits, juicy, citrus, NOT OJ!

Overall: Finally was able to pick up this collaboration beer from 2 of my favorite breweries. Lived up to the hype, I don't like the OJ bombs that a lot of NEIPAs end of being, this beer instead actually has a nice blend of fruits and citrus instead of a blast of orange and hop burn. Excellent!

32 oz growler poured into a shaker.
Purchased at Trenton Road Take Out in Levittown, PA.

Hazed-out, cloudy blonde. 1 finger of creamy white head.

Pineapple, guava, papaya, candied citrus, lemonade, and dank.

Guava, mango, pineapple, and papaya. Candied orange and lemonade. Firm dankness with some biscuity maltiness.

Medium bodied, smooth, soft, and juicy with hardly any bitterness.

That's a smooth NEIPA.

Pours orange in color, 1 minute post pour results in thin outer head, very little lacing. Aroma is citrus and very balanced. Taste is light mix of pineapple, orange, with even lighter coconut in the background. Very low bitterness.. with a slight resiny finish. MF is medium. A little carbonated as well. A delicious offering from 2 excellent breweries.

Pours an opaque light-orange with a two fingers of white foam. Head retention is good. Aroma is peaches, apricots, papaya, mango, rindy melon dew, yeast, and earthy, bready malts. It's soft, but dynamic. Flavor profile is papaya, tangerine, mango, peaches, apricot and rindy melon dew. There are hints of biscuity and bready malts combined with yeast at the finish. Mouth feel is soft with a very light, linen-like texture. It has a medium thickness. Overall, soft and delicate with a wonderful bouquet of notes.

L-Classic hazy IPA look...glowing light orange...1/4 inch white head

S-Right from the opening of the can the aroma jumps out. First impression is a an orange dreamsicle. Then, a good burst of mango. Really top notch.

T-Very smooth ripe citrus. Oranges, tangerines. Also the mango notes. Touch of papaya. Light pineapple. Not too sweet with the fruit flavors....just right.

F-Creamy, medium bodied...no harshness and no real bitterness.

O-Wow. This is really impressive. Easy drinking juice laden IPA offering that never pushes the "too sweet" boundaries.

Type: 16-oz. can
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. snifter glass

Misc.: Canned on Oct. 18, 2018; Collab between Modern Times and Fair State

Always nice to see Fair State in San Diego. Passed on a couple of others because of some September canned on dates, but had to pick up this one as I’m a sucker for Modern Times and I’ve liked everything I’ve had from Fair State. Online description read, “A silly, hazy & fun IPA brewed in collaboration with Modern Times Beer. Super juicy, tropical, and dank. Brewed with Pilsner malt (barley), pale wheat, flaked oats, flaked barley, and hopped with x331 Experimental, Mosaic, & Citra.”

Poured a golden hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of rocky-to-frothy white head. Could seem some slow moving bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. World-class spiderweb foamy lacing. Perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)

Smelled initially almost like a sour IPA. Got sugary Citra, orange, tangerine, citrus zest, papaya, Mosaic, floral, passion fruit and crusted up Smarties. Naturally better out of the can with Mosaic, Citra and passion fruit leading the way, and even some pineapple. (Smell - 3.75)

Taste was certainly better than the nose, but still was reminding me of a sour IPA. Got grapefruit, pineapple, tangerine, sugary Citra, Mosaic, papaya, passion fruit, lemon and Pilsner malt. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Clean finish. (Feel - 4.50)

Was back and forth for a bunch of the categories, but fine with where I ended up. (Overall - 4.25)

Comp with modern times
Awesome beer
Killer mouthfeel
Great texture
Super juicy with a small bitter finish. I could crush these all day.
Hazy for the haze bros
I’ll give credit to modern times on this cause it tastes like one of their beers

L: murky, pulpy straw gold under a 2" foam cap with good retention

S: big juicy fruit aromas punctuated with tropical fruit, citrus, tangerine, light ditch weed and bread crumb hit the nose from 4 feet away

T: Big juicy fruit flavors lead the attack mildly sweetened by a hint of caramel to toffee. Fruits are tropical, citrus and melon seasoned with a dash of dank on a base of bread crumb. It dries slightly on the finish with a slight astringent touch and a medium plus bitterness.

F: The body is luscious, juicy and creamy, medium full with medium carbonation.

O: very drinkable beer with amazing aftertastes and a superior texture

Cloudy as hell. Smells of citrus, tropical fruit, and mild dank. Flavor is juicy and flavorful, and more highly attenuated than NEIPAs. Nice bitterness, because an IPA needs bitterness and not be just fruit juice. I get citrus and floral elements that makes a nice combination. Just a little bit of earthy dankness. Nicely carbonated gives the body a nice lift without being harsh. Feels larger than the ABV suggests.

Did they pour pineapple juice into this? Seriously, this was very very juicy. And pretty. And smooth. An awesome example of a New England IPA from a Midwest/West Coast collaboration.

L - cloudy though not dense--fit the scent and flavor that it was more pineapple-juice-looking than orange juice. Head dissipated quickly.
S - very much juice. Pineapple hit me first.
T - Pineapple, then orange, and maybe mango ... but not simply juice as there was definitely some hop crispness tang to it.
F - pretty smooth. Not a lot of carbonation, but still enough to give this some zestiness on the tongue.
O - really good. Lines right up there with some NE IPAs I had had just before. I was impressed. Also points for the pretty can!

Poured from a 16oz can. No readable canning date stamp. Bottom of can is stamped 'DONTHAZEMEBRO'.
One of those yum beers, from opening the can to final sip.
Attractive tropical aromas come straight from the can upon opening, and continue into the taste. A little thin on mouth feel, but aroma and taste overcome any perceived deficiencies.
Not much for head, cap, or lacing, but the rest of the experience is what comes through.
A very tasty experience. Look to Lupulin pellet hopped, Disgruntled 'Stupid Good' or 'Damn Good', Junkyard Experimental IPA's or Forager's best IPA's for MN comparisons.

From second brew batch, purchased on 11/14/17. Stamped canning date is '11/09/2017'.
Body is very hazy yellow, retains thick white cap, and some lacing.
Heavy, stinky hop aroma, pineapple, grapefruit and orange.
Taste is not overly sweet, citrus and tropical fruit. Dry finish.
Still quite thin for mouth feel.
A juicy, hazy beer that is not too sweet and has a little bit of bitterness.

On 2/9/2018 drank a left over can from the first canning run (Sept 2017).
Aroma is muted, with orange dominant.
Orange is also dominant in the taste, with more bitter pith than juice.
Still good but totally recommended to drink fresh.

Super hazy golden sunset orange. White head with lace.

This is straight juice. Some of the best NE IPA to come out of MN. Grapefruit, mango, and orange. Very tropical. Earthy and floral. Soft. Very faint bitterness.

This is a definite winner in my book. By far the best IPA fair state has done.

Pint can poured into a snifter. I can't make out the canning date but it appears to say September on it making this less than a month old. I've only had one or two other NE style IPAs so this will be a tougher review for me. Onward!

Look is crazy! The pour resembles a watered down orange juice color. Less than a finger head that disappears very quickly and leaves no lacing. No visible carbonation and it is murky / hazy as hell! Tough one to judge on the look but I gave it high marks because I assume this is how the NE style looks like.

Smell is an incredibly intense and almost overwhelming sharp citrus. It's like someone just squeezed a tangerine in this thing! A little pine backbone and earthy notes in the background.

Taste is just as intense as the smell! Bitter tangerine, pine, vanilla orange, and just huge on the citrus in general. It's an aggressive beer that assaults your tastebuds with each sip.

Feel is nice. Not overly carbonated at all and it drinks very sharp and crisp. Refreshing.

Overall this beer was a treat. As I said before I haven't been accustomed to the NE style IPA so this was very different for me. If you don't like bitter and really bold citrus I'd stay clear of this beer but I sure enjoyed it!

a collaboration with modern times, this is one of the better east coast style ipas, not made on the east coast, that i have had anywhere, and further evidence that these fair state cats can really do it all! a cool washed out pale honey color to this one, creamy headed and relatively thick looking, starchy and murky but not sloppy looking, as its consistent throughout and without visible sediment in here. aroma and flavor are heavily dry hopped and juicy, true to this new style for sure, but distinctive too, pineapple and cantaloupe notes, tangerine, spruce, lemon, and a nice bitter bite too. fluffy feeling, oaty even, raw wheaty, sturdy but dry on the grain side, complex with the hop layers, but super drinkable with great glide going down. i am getting weary of ordering these hazy ipa types these days, as so many more bad ones than good ones exist, i am almost surprised when i find a good one, and have hardly had any at this level. awesome hop complexion and freshness, superior beer in every way, and amazing can art tripping me right out! not to be missed!

16 oz. can released this week amidst much hyperventilating. Hazy? Modern Times? Collab? HOLY SHIT GET TO THE BATMOBILE! And yes, I am part of the problem.

The can is trippy. Looks cool up close, but from across the room, I start having flashbacks to spring break in Jamaica circa 1995. Looks like a 50/50 mix of orange juice & mango juice, which already merits an overall 4.5, right? The nose succeeds in the succulent fruit category: mango, pineapple, & lots of grapefruit. Some aspire to tropical fruits: this beer realizes that dream.

Spirit Foul is the most legit spear-chuck at the nebulous “NE IPA” thing that I’ve had from a MN brewery. Funny it took an assist from the West Coast. All the fruits in the nose are present, but playing second fiddle to an aggressive, lemon-tinted bitterness. White grapes, grapefruit zest, & slight herbs round out the roster. Hard. 16 oz. is the right serving size.

Bathing in bitterness, which is often my complaint with “NE IPAs” – that they lack what defines a good IPA (at least for me). While I hate to provide grist for the hype mill wheel, this is an excellent beer.

Taste is great very floral & tropical, pineapple and citrus some garden dank and white fruits. mouth fell is soft and very carbonated, lingering bitterness very little malt. This is one of the top tier MN NEIPA'S made, well worth seeking out. Also one of the better "collaboration" brews ive had.(not a fan of Collaboration)

Was very interesting to see Niko and the guys from Fair State-known to stay more traditional and favor lagers over IPAS, collaborate on a Hazy beer with Modern Times. Well, looks like they should do it more often because this is a pretty solid beer.

Pours a super hazy orange julius looking color in to a Teku. Orange, tangerine, citrus, and pineapple jump out of the glass. Taste follows the nose with incredibly juicy flavors of tropical fruit on the tongue followed by slight bitterness but a very appropriate one at that! Carbonation is a little more aggressive than some of my east coast favorites (TH, OH, Trillium, etc) but that is me being picky. Overall, a pretty solid beer. Definitely worth seeking out as it will be swept up quick here in the Midwest
