12oz sample bottle from the brewery.

Nearly pitch black, light tan lacing sticks all over the place. Big spicy nose with some roasted chocolaty aromas in the back. Smooth with a cinnamon forward flavor, other spiciness comes through with the chocolate character. It stays a Porter very much even with everything else going on. Dial back the cinnamon and this beer will really shine.

On tap in Oct. 2015; revisited with a 12 oz can (canning date of 24 Oct. 2016) in Feb. 2017.

Good looking with a mixed density head over a dark but clear brown body.

The flavor, which has some chocolate, is richer and more pleasant. It would be easy to over do the cinnamon or cloves, but these are used judiciously.
Very light chili is obvious in the aroma and, upon tasting, more evident mid-taste than in the finish but reappears with light heat in the aftertaste.

I bought a six pack of this from a beer store in central Florence. It poured an opaque dark with off white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had hints of spice. The taste was evenly balanced and easy to drink. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was ok.

Poured from a 12 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is black with some red highlights and a small tan head. The aroma is a mild chocolate presence. The taste mirrors the nose.

I've had other "mole" beers - usually some sort of ale or porter. But this particular mole beer has to be one of the better one I have had. Probably because it didn't taste overly malty or sweet. I got a lot cinnamon flavor, which wasn't expected, but very pleasant. I had this beer with mole chicken enchiladas at a local Mexican joint. Part of me wishes that my meal wasn't so flavorful, so I could have better enjoyed this beer.

OK, I ❤️ Porters, but this one is totally different. Outstanding job Second Self Brewers My wife who does not like dark beers loved it. My friend who does not like ports gave an authentic “excellent” porter!

From the growler, it pours a dark brown with a reddish tinge on the edges, which goes along with a tan head. A bit of chocolate in the nose. A bit of chocolate in the mouth along with some spice, enough to get you thinking how delicious it is. Recommended!
