Visited with two other families and kids on a Monday evening around 5pm. Place was crowded but we found a table looking over the water.

V - Not a beer bar but a happy beach bar and that might be better. Nothing snobbish about this bar. Its a beach bar with good beer. 4.25

Q - Maybe you get a glass when you order, but they are clean. The place sells a lot of beer. I doubt anything they are selling languishes in or out of a cooler. 3.75

Ser - Waitress was attentive, extremely friendly and helpful. She had a basic knowledge of the beer. 4.25

Sel - A good local selection with a surprising number of California beers on tap. Nothing will blow BA readers away, but there was a good variety and good quality. 3.75

F - Had the fish tacos. Yummy! Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. 4.25

Fish Heads is located on the OBX pier, set up as a covered tiki bar with three open sides facing the sand and sea. There is additional seating outside the bar, some tables with umbrellas, and all with table service. My wife and I spent 3 days of our week-long OBX vacation enjoying Fish Heads' location. We set up our beach chairs near the waves right next to the pier so we could take advantage of the shade beneath the pier whenever we thought we had gotten enough sun. Then it was just a short walk up to their pier for an excellent lunch and a few brews. The grilled fish sandwich was one of the best I had anywhere in OBX. Conch fritters were as delicious as I ever had in the Florida Keys.

The bar had about 20 taps which included the standard fare of PBR, Shocktop, Redhook Long Hammer IPA, etc, but there was a good selection of NC craft beer from Mother Earth, Natty Green, Oskar Blues, and Full Moon (brewed in nearby Manteo). The waitress said they keep rotating taps as well. Service was a good as I could expect a beach bar to be, besides, why be in a hurry - you're at the beach on a beautiful sunny day!

Our rental was located a few miles away in Kill Devil Hills, so we did not have a chance to enjoy their happy hour or live music in the evenings. Maybe next time...because I will definitely be back.
