Notes: The Devil Anse IPA is a medium bodied American style India Pale Ale. Featuring a blend of Australian and Pacific Northwest hops; lending to a balanced bitterness of citrus and tropical fruit characteristics. The complex hop flavors are balanced by a blend of malts; including American 2-Row, American Pilsner, and British floor malted barley. At 6.9% abv and 65 IBU’s, no feuding is necessary when you enjoy this refreshingly smooth IPA.

HOPS: Amarillo, Galazy, Simcoe

A tremendous thanks to @alexsergio, for getting me this beer to me. The label is part of West Virginia History. I remember watching a documentary on the Hatfields and McCoys. A feud between the families lasted for quite some time. First beer from West Virginia and I am eager to proceed with the review. The beer is 48 degrees and served in a pint glass. The pour of the beer produced a two finger thick head that is airy, billowy and frothy. The retention on the head is excellent and left a generous amount of lacing on the glass. The head is bright white and glistens in the light. The color of the beer is SRM is pale gold with light amber hues. The beer is moderately clear with a touch of haziness. Overall the appearance of the beer is beautiful.

The aromas of the beer are oranges, pine, orange, resin, grapefruit, floral esters, lightly toasted malts, a pinch of solvents, toasted crackers, and bay leaf.

The aromas of the beer are pine, earthy, grassy, oranges, pineapple, floral esters, crackers, solvent, a hint of cardboard, yeasty, bay leaf, resin, grapefruit, lightly toasted malts, and passion fruit.

The mouthfeel of the beer is astringent and crisp.

The body of the beer is medium, medium-high carbonation, and full finish.

For me, I would have like to have tasted a firmer malt backbone. The hops are there but not as strong as I would have presumed from IPA. Thinking about Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, the hops are just on par with this profile. The beer has this solvent note on the backend of the taste that is a tad annoying. Overall, this a solid IPA and would recommend it to any hop head.

Had on tap while visiting WV. While I was not expecting much, this really surprised me. Great juicy hop flavor with a slight bitterness at the end, along with a nice malt backbone which balances well with the hop flavors. Very good!

This is an exceptional beer brewed in the little ol Greenbrier Valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I've had it a few times on draft in the past few years but this last time I really got a NE haze with exceptional citrus/hop-forward taste. Very impressed!!

Not much to look when it was set in front of me pale golden yellow almost like a macro lager. I wasn’t expecting much but I was wrong. A really good IPA outside of the citrus realm. Hoppy, earthy and a really good crisp clean finish. Great beer.

A bushy, white, one inch foam slowly morphs to a creamy veil. A dense coating of lace is deposited on a PBGC pint glass wrapped in threads of glass. The beer is opalescent, orange-gold (SRM4-6). Tiny bubbles are everywhere, all racing to the top.

Pineapple opens the aroma, and yields to grapefruit. Later, orange pith and pine form a solid background. Warmth oddly diminishes the character.

This IPA is more bitter than I had expected, which may be in part due to the number of NEIPAs I have enjoyed lately. Orange flavors work well with the pineapple. Grapefruit and pine are also evident, though all rather pithy. Some cracker malt is also present just before a long, drawn-out finish that returns bitterness to the forefront.

The body is full, with a density similar to pear nectar. It is almost dense. The texture is soft and fluffy, perhaps due to the background of fine carbonation. Alcohol is noticeable, yet well-controlled -- about as expected.

This is a good American IPA and well-suited for relaxing with or without casual conversation. I enjoyed this one on a bitter cold and snowy night after a long drive home.

12oz can into a Teku

Look: Pours a clear light copper/amber with a big, soapy off-white head that reduces to a thin ring but leaves plenty of sticky lacing down the glass.
Smell: Mostly sweet caramel malt/toasted bread upfront. Lighter notes of grapefruit, orange, citrus peel, mango, and pineapple balanced out by a healthy dose of bitter pine/earth/resin.
Taste: Rather light at first, mostly toasty caramel malt... then earthy, bitter, citrusy, resiny, hops come roaring in.
Feel: A sticky medium bodied brew with a dry finish. Small bubbles and light carbonation.
Overall: Delicious if you like your IPAs to showcase a strong earthy bitterness while still remaining well balanced and incredibly drinkable.
