Served on tap in a snifter
Appearance – The beer is served a clear deep orange amber color with a tiny white foam head. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a little bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is massive of a bready smell with a decent showing of hop aromas of a grapefruit citrus smell. Along with these aromas comes some slightly sweeter smells of tangerine and pineapple as well as some other hop aromas of a pine and herbal nature.
Taste – The taste begins very malty with tons of bread and a bit of a crackery taste. Along with these flavors are some hop tastes of a grapefruit nature, which with the malt, create a base taste for the brew. As the taste moves forward, more and more pine hop tastes begin coming to the tongue with some other hop of an earthy and herbal nature joining in. While there are some rather light fruit tastes of tangerine and orange upfront, these fade toward the middle of the taste only to come back ever so slightly at the finish of the taste. With a bit of a boozy alcohol burn coming at the very end, one is left with a nice malty and warming hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is very thick and chewy with a carbonation level that is a little bit on the lower side. For the big robust hop, malt, and boozy flavors of the brew the feel is dead on, really coating the tongue in all the rich flavors and making it a rather slow sipper as it should be at 9.5 %.
Overall- A rather big and malty and nicely hop blended IPA that keeps you in check with a decent warming alcohol hit. This I rather enjoyed, and I hope Bridger brews this up on a regular occasion, at least making it a rotator from time to time.
