Big head production, with frothy dark foam sitting atop a deep, dark, inviting body. Retention is excellent, with the head fading at a modest pace, leaving behind flat fields of lacing, but never quite disappearing, with a thin foamy hat remaining long after the pour. Head is more firm (less frothy) on subsequent pours.

Nose is roasty, with vegetal and "dull" notes provided by both the oak fermentation and the chilies. Chocolate, and to a lesser extent cinnamon and vanilla, are also present on the nose, along with a full, creamy, doughy note. Some light red grape, mild char, and banana from the malt and yeast. Not a particularly strong nose, but virtually every element that went into making this beer is present.

Wow, as restrained as the nose is, this brew is exactly opposite on the palate! Peppery heat up front, mingling with cinnamon, chocolate, vanilla, roasted barley, and oak tannins. The flavors swirl and mingle in a whirlpool of sweet, thick stout goodness, instead of discrete and distinct waves. The heat takes a touch more prominence in the middle, and lasts throughout the finish.

Tremendous chili flavor, with a modest-to-strong heat - not habanero strength, but far more prominent than so many other chili stouts. I would rate the heat as stronger than the earlier runs of Bomb! (themselves far stronger than the current runs), but less than Mexican Cake.

Thick, smooth, nearly chewy. The chili heat masks any alcohol heat. Very appropriate level of activity, liveliness, and sting for the ABV, really allowing you to savor the brew. Slightly sticky finish.

This is, hands down, one of the best spiced stouts I have had in ages. I would put it up there with Mexican Cake, and I'm really struggling to find a flaw or even room for improvement in most areas. An absolute joy to drink.

Minor head which leaves no lacing. Deep, dark brown (near black). No light passes.

The smell is more like a Porter than a Stout but the spices show up nicely with cinnamon and light hotter pepper.

The flavor is smooth with a strong vanilla balance to the dark chocolate base. There's a light touch of peppery heat (not bitterness). Full bodied with weak carbonation. I get a mild sweetness in the form of chocolate. In short, this is a complicated beer with some excellent touches to create a complete and complex offering. One of the best beers I've had in a long time.

32 oz howler and several glasses on tap, but this is out of a week old howler fill. Poured into an IPA glass.

A: Not much of a Head, body is a brown black that has a little light escaping around its edges.

S: The Cinnamon and sweetness hit you immediately. Then you get a little vanilla and chocolate.

T: Lots of sweet lush cinnamon chocolate it’s like eating a graham cracker and then you get a nice dose of heat on the finish.

M: medium to fuller body light cling on the finish.

O: This a dynamite beer, probably one of the best ones I have ever had by them. The flavors work so well together.
