Bottle to snifter, the appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a finger’s worth of slight white foamy head. Boy, did that dissipate quickly, ya blink and you’ll miss that head. Lace? Nope, not there. The aroma had some super dried nutty and rough sweet wood. Dark fruits stretching upon some barnyard features and some black licorice with a huge cereal sweetness. The flavor was sweet and barnyardy with some smoke and stale vanilla beans. Bubblegum dried sweetness with sharp grassy tones. Aftertaste seemed to linger for days of the malts penetrating the finish in a cloying fashion. The palate was about medium bodied with no sort of sipping quality about it as an Imperial stout should. Carbonation did feel fine. The ABV felt fine too. Overall, whenever this craft beer bubble breaks, pretty sure no one will miss Bent Hill when they close.

Look: looks fantastic. Perfect looking motor oil black with a slight creamy caramel head. Minimal lacing.
Smell: Make sure to smell at room temperature to experience the full effect. Milk chocolate, caramel, toffee, maple, cream, slight booze. Smells amazing. Definitely one of the best beers I've ever had the pleasure of smelling. You NEED to get a nose on this one. Very nice real, rich, deep maple scent.
Taste: Very nice. Dates, alcohol, chocolate, a tiny bit of citrus on the front maybe. Very smooth finish.
Feel: Heavy mouthfeel. Thick, viscous, and rich.
Overall: So many different notes packed in on the nose, quite unlike anything I've ever experienced in a beer.

Both smells and tastes strongly of dates. Feel is reminiscent of a red wine. This beer is labeled an imperial stout, but is unlike any other imperial stout I've had. That may not be a bad thing, if you appreciate boozy fruity dark beers and lambics. Overall, it missed the mark for me.

375ml bottle share thanks to Steve. Back to reality after the Cassian Sunset. Rather pedestrian RIS with enough minor notes from the bourbon and maple to make it interesting. But not enough to push it into exceptional. Finishes with a lingering odd metallic taste.

A: Pitch black with a little head that disappeared quickly. S: Maple, and a lot of it. A little chocolate and some roast. T: Maple bomb, no barrel, faint chocolate and roast. M: On the medium side of full. Oily and slick. O: If I blind tasted this, I would not have guessed it was barrel aged. The maple flavor is big, but it tastes like it needs a bit to meld into the other flavors a bit. I think a bit more time in the barrel to add that oaky depth would do wonders to this...still a good beer though
