500ml bottle poured into pint glass.
L: Black and opaque, with a dark ruby-brown halo and tan head. I didn't get good head formation, so nothing to speak of with retention and no lacing to speak of.
S: Roasty notes dominate the nose, with some vanilla on the fringes, but very subtle.
T: Roasted flavours through and through, hinting at coffee way down in its depths. There's also some hazelnut skin in the mix. The combination of subtle malt sweetness and acidity keep the bitterness in check, where it really only comes into play at the end of the sip. The finish is earthy, herby bitter that lingers for a while afterwards.
F: Medium-bodied, with a decent weight, but I was searching for more from an oatmeal stout. The carbonation was livelier than expected, though, and there was a bit of a tannic feel to the finish that leant itself to the bitterness nicely.
O: Definitely a good stout, but nothing that made it stand out in the crowd. I would get this again, but I think that Stone City has better beers on offer.
