Pours black with very little foam or fizz. Still isn't a great word, as there is a little liveliness to the bubble up, but not much. What foam is there is caramel in color. Aroma is a hearty one-two of roasted and toasted malts quickly followed up by bourbon and a kiss of char. Caramel and toffee both become more evident as the beer warms. Flavor profile is deep and dark, hitting notes of roasted, toasted, and caramel malts. Toffee and molasses find their way into the mix. All is layered over a bourbon note kept on low simmer. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a velvety, creaminess. Overall, it drinks pretty hearty, with loads of depth to the straightforward imperial stout base. Time in the barrels was well spent, adding a kiss of bourbon that only comes off a touch hot in the aroma.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 750mL bottle.

12% abv Russian barrel aged stout.
Look: Wow, good whiff of the barrel after popping the cap. Not opaque black on the pour. Some mahogany/scarlet/ruby browns through the edges of glass. Pinky of loosely packed bubbles that dissipates quickly. Nice ribbon like legs on swirl.

Smell: Strong dark chocolate followed by bourbon, a little molasses, and dark roast malts. Some mild fruity coffee and dark fruits, but lots of chocolate for a non-adjunct stout.

Taste: Beautiful balance of chocolate, roasted dark malts, and a spicy, almost rye like bourbon character. Not a lot of vanilla or oak present, letting the chocolate malts and bourbon show. No sweetness, hop bite, or bitter acrid char in the finish.

Feel: Medium mouth feel. Subtle soft carbonation that's very pillowy and creamy when swished around inside your mouth. Some mild warming that slowly descends down to your stomach. Clean, quick, dry finish that's not sticky or oily.

Overall: This beer is not in your face, it's very mild and approachable for the style.

Poured out a jet-black color with a small tan head of foam. It smelled of chocolate, roasted malt and toffee. Nice roasted flavor with some caramel sweetness and piney bitterness.
