12oz can. Pours black opaque color with a decent tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Taste of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt and grain. Medium bitterness with a fairly dry finish. Medium body, quite smooth but bit weak on character.

Poured from can into stout glass. It pours nearly black with a half finger of creamy, khaki-colored head and a thin sheen of lacing. The nose features freshly-brewed coffee, milk chocolate, and nuts. The coffee in the taste is a lot more bitter than in the smell. There are also notes of bitter, earthy char. I'm not tasting much of the chocolate that I smelled. For a stout it has a rather thin mouth feel with light carbonation, and with an ABV of only 5.3%, it's super easy to drink. Overall, it's a nice stout particularly if you like one on the bitter side.

12oz can, no apparent freshness date. Black pour with a foamy light brown head. Pleasant aromas of chocolate, coffee, roasted barley and a hint of anise. Bold flavors with notes of baker's chocolate, creamed dark roast coffee, roasted barley, char, faint vanilla, and earthy hops. Full body, moderate carbonation, finishing with roast and modest bitter hops lingering. Easily my favorite beer from this brewery so far. I look forward to drinking the rest of the pack!

12oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It smelled of chocolate, coffee and sweet toffee. It tasted like I think wet coffee grounds taste like. With mild chocolate flavors.

A - Black opaque body, dark tan head, fading quickly, a bit of lacing.

S - A bit of boozy warmth, roasted malts, and a note of medicinal hops. A little muddled.

T - Chocolate and coffee open, a bread pudding core, and a dry close, with smart coffee acidity, as well.

M - Brisk and light, a touch thin for my taste.

O - Offers nice flavor and a decent traditional stout coupled with coffee and chocolate aspects. Well built.

Pours black with a finger of khaki head on top. Fair head retention with a solid polka-dot pattern of lacing left behind. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, with a dry finish. Nothing is very loud here, instead each of those notes shows up quiet. Flavor profile is chocolate, coffee, with a grainy, roasted malt backbone. It finishes semi-dry, not leaving any lingering notes save for a grainy, roasted malt taste. Mouth feel is smooth, and dry, with a medium-thin consistency. Overall, a stout with promise that checks each box sheepishly, unfortunately, it lacks enough depth to be a hearty stout.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 22oz bottle.

This brew is from a 22 ounce bomber. The color is utterly black...obsidian....with a soapy tan head. Roasted grain dominate the aroma. Semi-dry taste, with a bit of grainy astringency and plenty of roasted flavors. The body is a little thin for the flavor, and the finish is a bit abrupt. Medium bitterness and reasonable drinkability. All in all, this is a solid beer, but not overly interesting or remarkable.

Pours a dark brown color. 1/2 inch head of an off-tan color. Good retention and great lacing. Smells of strong roasted malt, sweet malt, hint of hop, and a hint of chocolate. Fits the style of an American Stout. Mouth feel is overly sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong roasted malt, slight chocolate, sweet malt, hint of piney hops, and a hint of yeast. Overall, the roasted malt is too dominant, the chocolate is too subtle, and the sharpness is too distinct.
