Definitely citrus as per the name. Hoppy but not overly so. Smooth start to finish. Smooth palette. Really like it. Pine but mostly orange peel notes. Good beer

Had from a tap in a pint glass in Saint Louis. Darker than an average IPA. Hoppy and flavorful, not light. Really liked it. No burn or overtly acid flavors.

A clean and citra forward ipa. The smell is pure citra, don't think there will ever be a day I don't love that. The taste has some sweeter honey-like malt with lemon, grapefruit and slight pine. Little thin on the back end, but really nice balance and flavor

Pours an effervescent and hazed amber with 2+ fingers of cream colored head. Lovely lacing & pretty good head retention

S: Mango, orange peel

T: Grapefruit, bready dryness, a little mango & pine up front. Pomelo, dryness, a touch of toffee, plus some grapefruit & mango as this warms. Woody hops & dryness dominate the finish, just a touch pomelo & breadyness

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, nice balance

Solid IPA, drinkable enough

There's few cities in America that celebrates the civic pride like St. Louis. And at the Modern Brewery, they make beers to match that passion. With the choicest hops at their disposal, they create a bold, juicy and flavorful hop forward beer that brings the same sort of pride.

Citrapolis pours a typical amber golden hue of honey. Hazy and firmly headed, the beer's aromas are a radiant blend of oranges and caramel before that caramelized taste hits the tongue. Graham cracker, bread crust and pecan round out the savory malts in anticipation of its growing hops on the middle palate.

A bursting tangerine character permeates the tastebuds with a bold sense of citronella, branch ripe citrus, red grapefruit, nectarine and apricot. Trending herbal and bitter, the sweetness gradually releases and the drying resins of hops bring a crisp bitterness of orange peel, pith and leaf. Hinting toward hemp and geranium late on the palate.

Medium bodied and lingering with a soft linger of caramel malts, the beer seems to be part of pale ale and part of IPA. A long and bitter finish carries the peppery resins of hops with sun tea, verbena, juniper and freshly shaven pine at heart.

I have had this beer many times, and can't believe that I've never reviewed it. Golden, great head, mostly clear except for a few floaties, this is an attractive beer. The aroma is of pine, pithy citrus, and resiny hops. Fresh and intense aroma. The taste is drier than expected, although there is a solid malt flavor. I get lots of hop flavor. Succulent and juicy hops. Full in body and very enjoyable.

Thanks goes out to Buck89 for this brew.

16 oz. Can
Canned On: 07/12/17

Poured into a Squatters true pint glass a very nice cloudy orangy color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which also leaves some pretty nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, with a nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit), some pineyness. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, very nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit), some pine notes. Medium body, ABV hidden very well, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, this is a pretty tasty brew. Glad to have gotten a chance to try it. Thanks John!

Apparently they just started canning this, and this is the first run. Poured from a fresh can into a snifter. Very hazy golden color with a frothy and long-lasting white head. Bright Citra smell - fresh oranges and grapefruit. Also some subtle earthy resin and dry, bready malt. The taste was along these lines, but amped up. Bursting citrus flavor with a subtle sweetness from the hops and not the malt. Nice and dry, well-balanced. A great IPA.

the apparent flagship ipa from this st louis up and comer, doing some really cool beers in here. this one though, i think has gotten a little ahead of itself, people are loving it (obviously), but i dont think its as well refined as it could be, and this one always drinks a little heavy and bitter for me, a little more so than it needs to for what it is, but the citra hop flavor is fantastic despite the slightly rougher edges. its a hazy one, wheaty tasting, and sort of starchy and coarser feeling for whatever reason, nicely heady through, and thick white lace lingers long after each sip. the aroma is quite bitter, its citra for sure, but in a somewhat more rugged context than we usually see, vegetal and fresh, but intense beyond just citrus fruits in the aroma. the flavor is the same, concentrated intense citra, maybe some other hops for bittering too, as this is pretty assertive there. it tastes really fresh to me which i love, and it has a sturdy malt flavor without being sweet at all, also a nice touch. the beer though winds and weaves into a pretty bitter finish that lingers long and seems more aggressive than it should be, the delicate citra hops turn into something much fiercer here. i can see the appeal for some, but a little cleaning up would make a much more drinkable beer, at least for me. i like their galaxy and mosaic hoppy beer at least as much!
