Bottled 5/11/16; drank 1/26/17 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque dark purple appearance.

A rough pour yielded a small khaki head; almost no lace.

Dark cherry, candle wax & faint baking soda notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Dark cherry & caramel flavors up front; dried plum notes on the finish. Faint booze heat notes emerged as this warmed.

Pretty old at this point but it held up well; a pleasant surprise!

This is not the heartiest Scotch ale I've had, but it's decently drinkable.

Reddish brown in color, more hoppy than I would want it, but still a good one.

This is my first beer from scorched earth and won't be my last. Poured into a St. Bernardus goblet. Dated 4/6/16.

The appearance is a really pretty reddish brown with a murky yeast haze making it pretty much opaque.

The aroma is dark fruits for days with plum, tart cherry, fig and blackberry along with a pleasant spicy yeast note.

The taste follows the nose with a big tart cherry note along with the dark fruit coming through. Also a spicy yeast note.

The palate is medium with a nice lingering tartness and sweet maltiness. Lingering spice as well.

Overall this is a really solid intro to this brewery that I will definitely have to try more of. This is a really nice dubbel that I can't wait to try aged.

Pours a burgundy tinged brown color. When held to the light, its just red and you can see through the beer. Thin tan head dissipates leaving a thin tan ring around the outside of the beer. Beer looks appropriate for the style, but Id like to see more head and have it be a bit more resilient.

Smell has aromas of malts, a touch of grain, dark bread, and a hint of stone fruit. That aroma gives way to a hint of sour cherries. Not overwhelming, but complimentary to the aromas of the underlying beer.

Taste follows the nose with a prominent malt and dark bread flavor. A hoppy bitterness is noted in the beer with a noticeable alcoholic finish. The tart cherries are merely complimentary in the beer - the flavor is there, but not overpowering. If anything, they may be a bit too subtle. Blends very well with the dark fruit flavors already in the dubbel.

Feel is a tad light for the style, but not distractingly so. Decent carbonation. Dry finish with a bit of alcohol heat.

Overall a nice locally made dubbel. Would like to see more head on this, but its a good beer.
