Poured from a pitcher into a pint glass.
A: Half finger head of dense brown foam, good lacing. Deep mahogany with a hint of red.
S: Gentle roasted malt, not very pungent. No appreciable hops.
T: Dominant roasted malt flavors, complemented by more subtle and rounded chocolate, molasses and malt sweetness. Low bitterness with no hop flavors.
M: Medium-heavy body, maybe a dose of oatmeal in the mash. Mild carbonation.
O: A solid example of the style. Good complexity while still building on the roasted malt backbone. This would be an excellent winter drinker.

Had on tap at Big Time. Review from notes.
A: Served in a pint glass, the beer was black with a thin tan head on top. Decent retention with minimal wisps of lacing.
S: Lots of hearty roast with a bit of chocolate and cocoa. Hints of coffee as well.
T: A nice American stout with plenty of roast upfront, coffee, cocoa, and a bit of bitterness on the finish.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation, slightly creamy feel to it.
O: Solid stout. Nice roast throughout, good for the winter, but could see myself drinking it in the warmer months as well.

On tap at Big Time Brewery. Poured to a standard pint glass (this review is from notes taken 7/12/11).
A - Poured dark brown/black with thick body. Light tan 1/2-finger head split between foam and isolated large bubbles. Shines brick red/ruby in the light.
S - Prominent malty scent, with a hint of vinegar and a underpinning of dark coffee.
T - Chocolatey malt to start with vinegar highlights, followed by a vanilla and molasses finish.
M - Medium thick body. Creamy, with crisp but mild carbonation. Chewy finish.
D - Very nice if you're ready for it. Almost a dessert beer and definitely not for a hot day. Very tasty, and the heavy body makes you savor it. Great autumn fireside beer.

Had a pint of this beer on tap today at the brewery.
Appearance: totally black with a thin layer of dark tan foam. Pretty nice.
Smell: nice coffee aroma. Very simple, but well-done; my only complaint is its lack of complexity.
Taste: very flavorful, if basic, American stout. Nice coffee and roasted malts predominate with a hint of dark malt acidity. Bitterness is good, and there are no appreciable hop flavors except for some vegetal hop qualities.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good, creamy carbonation. I quote like it.
Overall: quite a solid American stout. It is well crafted and really hits the spot.
