Pretty sure this one was thrown in from Milan a few years ago.

Pours a black color out of some janky waxed bottle, 1/2" brown head. Aroma hit a good balance of that roasted malt and brown sugar. Not sure what the "revenge" part here is, doesn't seem heavy handed or punishing.

Taste was interesting, it isn't in pastry stout category, and it really isn't even that sweet, despite the revenge of brown sugar claims. I can tell it is nice with the mouth feel, at 11% I'm not finding it to be too hot. There is a bitterness to it, but at this strength and heft, I'm sure you gotta do what you gotta do.

There are some dark fruit notes that contribute to the real and perceived bitterness. By the time it was all gone (which was almost an hour) I was thankful to be done, but still intrigued by the beer. Gets some originality points, I can't really think of any imperial stout I've had where the only adjunct is brown sugar. So its good for getting a feel for brown sugar in a beer that isn't from Lagunitas. Great Stones song too.

Thanks Joe. This was a surprise sleeper.

Black body. Nice one finger head from this two year old bottle.
Aroma of roasted malts, espresso, unsweetened chocolate and molasses.
Brewed with piloncillo but clearly not with a heavy hand. The malts are still the show here and boy are they toasted and roasted. Wonderful flavors of deep roasted malts, coffee, molasses, oak and, yes, a brown sugar sweetness.
Heavy body. Medium carbonation. Smooth mouth feel initially, giving way to a dry, bitter finish.

This beer pours the deepest pitch black one can pour. Its hypnotic and abyss like appearance is topped by only by a thin, single, perfect, light tan ring just around the perimeter of the glass.

When first transferred, aromas of black coffee, molasses, and salty olives took lead. As it warmed, toasted bread and brown sugar willingly took their places, but no one left the scene.

Black strap and syrupy molasses compliment some caramelized sugar, roasted coffee, and an oak like flavor. There is no mention of this being oak aged, so perhaps a very earthy variety of hops create this sensation. Some booze comes through as expected, but not in the least is it unpleasant.

This beer shines right hear. Slick, rich, and oily while maintaining a light carbonation, and a lingering bitterness cutting down on the initial sweetness.

Outstanding. One thing I hate in big stouts is when they're accompanied by a thin feel. This one is thick and creamy, and everything I like in a stout. Roasty, sweet, bitter, boozy, and balanced. A true sipper and a real treat. Cheers and thanks Joe!

Unknown vintage; drank 3/9/15 @ the Yarchives.

Poured from a bottle into a glass.

Black/brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a big dark khaki head; a curtain of tree-rung lace.

Cream, raspberry & brown sugar notes in the nose.

Creamy medium mouthfeel.

Raspberry, cream, milk chocolate & brown sugar flavors up front; fresh earth notes on the finish. A root beer sweetness settled on my lips over the course of the session. A unique & winning mix of flavors; this was my 1st 51st Ward brew & I'm impressed.
