Les 3 Brasseurs "Brune", 4.8% abv 28 IBUs
on tap at 1658 rue St-Denis, 1 Octobre 2014
$4.25 Canadian / verre

Notes: Interesting... my receipt reads "LES 3 BRASSSEURS", let's hope they're more careful with their beers. Clear, dark brown body with ruby highlights when held to the light. The short head drops readily to a thin, light brown ring of foam. Little lacing is left behind (might be a dirty glass). Aroma is clean, and malty with notes of dark and light chocolate as well as a hint of background roastiness (think black coffee). Malty upfront with a delicate fruitiness. More chocolate combines with golden caramel and a pleasant nuttiness across the middle, and into the finish. Delicately spicy and softly grassy hops help to liven it. Median bitterness. Medium leaning towards medium-light in body. Smooth, moderate carbonation. Overall, a basic but drinkable Munich-style dunkel that's well made.

Well, how should I start... I really like darker beers, but if all brown ales tasted like this one, I'd given up on beer.

Appearance is good though the foam did not last a minute.

Smell was awful... A mix of yeast and garbage... Maybe it was a butched batch...

Taste... Say what?? Taste is a strong word, it should invoke some pleasure... This was a real torture...

Mouthfeel is ok but that's not what I remembered from that drink so I give it an average rating.

Drinkability... Hard to finish it...

Ordered at Les 3 Brasseurs on St. Catherines in Montreal.

Appearance: Arrived at my table a dark cola brown colour with a small off white/tanned head. Resides to thin layer with some good lacing.

Aroma: Mostly of sweetened chocolate, roasted coffee beans, a bit flowery as well, but otherwise the hops are somewhat subdued.

Taste: Quite sweet with notes of coffee that are more mokka sweet than bitter. A low-medium bitterness is found in a finish thats subdued, making it very drinkabily.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, low level of carbonation, very drinakble.

Final Statement: It lacks a strong hop profile, but works regardless. It's a nice brown that I found highly sessionable. Would definately order it again.

Poured a dark brown, little head, and a ruby hue. Aroma was pleasant; sweet, nutty, and a hint of coffee.

This is a pretty tasty beer. A big malt presence up front, roasted nuts, slight coffee and mild chocolate flavors. Not much of a hop presence, but it didn't feel like it needed one. Tasted very fresh. Could've used a bit more body. I finished this one rather quickly, and could have another.

Overall, I know this is a chain microbrew, but it's pretty good. Certainly the best I had at 3 Brasseurs. You could do much worse, that's for sure.

Clear, dark brown with red highlights topped by a thin, light brown ring of foam that left little lacing. Malty, chocolate and roasted aroma. Sweet malt flavour to start, low bitterness. Moderate fruitiness towards the beginning shows up again at the end, along with some nuttiness. Finishes with chocolate and roasted malts with a hint of coffee. Medium body, carbonation on the light side, with a dry, grain astringency that becomes a little too strong by the end of a pint. More bitterness and hop character would provide much needed balance to this one.
