New Albion Ale® is the Original Craft Beer. In 1976, Jack McAuliffe quietly started the American craft beer revolution when he opened the New Albion Brewing Company®, America's first post-Prohibition microbrewery in Sonoma, California with this flagship beer. Brewed solely with American Cascade hops, this golden American Pale Ale has a distinct hop note and a subtle piney character that is as enjoyable today as it was when it was first introduced. Together with Jack's daughter Renee, Platform Beer is proud to bring back Jack's pioneering brew. Pay homage.

Poured from 12-ounce can into a stemless wine glass. Pours a murky dark orange, with a three-finger white head that left a modicum of sticky lacing. Nice pop of piney aroma upon opening the can. Aroma and flavor profiles are slightly malt forward. The Cascade hops provide notes of pine and citrus. Medium mouthfeel, dry finish with a touch of resiny bitterness on the aftertaste. There was no date on the can, but the beer was first released in cans in October 2017. Although the hop character seems to have tailed off a bit, this is still a very solid performer.

This may be the brew Platform was destined to brew. I haven't really liked any of their products but this works, and stays true to their integral flavor.
It pours pretty plain, yellow, with very little fizz. The aroma is muted, but a nice alluring ale. The taste is uniquely malty and bitter. The (im)balance is nice, and somehow familiar, like I had this weirdness before, only this one is from Platform.
Recommended (first time for a Platform brew). Guaranteed to be a change of pace.

I was very excited for this and went out of my way to get a growler of it as soon as it was released, but I should have tempered my expectations, considering the beginning of the craft revolution was unlikely to be that drastically different than your basic array of BMC Pilseners.

Per the new New Albion website:
Style: American pale ale
Malt: Two-row pale malt blend
Hop Variety: American Cascade
IBUs: 30
ABV: 6%
Yeast: New Albion Ale yeast; cataloged at UC-Davis
Poured from a growler into a pint glass.
A: Bold yellow with just shy of a one-finger head that slowly settles
S: This has a bit of a macro aroma in terms of a mix of grains, but the grains are fresh/pure and there's a bit of a hop note coming through as well
T: Tame by today's standards with a malt backbone that tastes of varying grains. But the Cascade hops really shine through adding floral notes, spice and a hint of pine
M: Light-bodied, fresh, crisp and somewhat bitter
O: It's great that they re-created a classic and that I got the chance to try it. Again a bit different than much of what's saturating the market today, but I can see where at its release this definitely would have pushed boundaries. I hope they continue to brew it through the summer months as it would be fantastic to drink in warmer weather
