From a can. Pours a cloudy copper color with a half inch of beige head. Smells of roasted malt and brown sugar. Medium body and a creamy feel. Roasted malt flavors with a moderately bitter finish. Very nice, the creamy feel reminds me of red ales I've had on tap.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance - The beer is served deep crimson red color with a tiny white head. The head fades fast to leave bit of leave on the sides of the glass.
Smell -The aroma is heaviest of a roasted malt smell mixed with a descent showing caramel and a bit of toast and roast.
Taste - The taste begins with a nice caramel and roasted and toasted malt with a little bit of herb and molasses. As the taste advanced a touch of toast and some light earth comes to the tongue to leave one with moderately toasty and toasty taste in the mouth.
Mouthfeel - The body of the brew is medium in thickness and has a carbonation level that is normal. Good and easy drinking for the style
Overall- A decent red with a good flavor.

Surprisingly good beer! One of the best Irish reds I have had. Poured a deep reddish brown with a thick foamy head and great lacing. Fragrant almost roses smell. Taste is toasted malt and warm spice. A feel good beer. Will buy again.

This is a great full flavoredl beer. It is well balanced, although it leans towards the carmel malts. There is a bit of a spiced cream flavor. It leaves a delicious lingering beer flavor with a hint of warm alcohol.

Pours a transparent reddish amber. Mildly sweet aroma. Pleasant flavor except for the hops, which are a little too assertive. Somewhat citrusy but tending toward grapefruit, which I tend to avoid. Light bodied and smooth with a refreshing feel. Agreeable aftertaste despite the hops being somewhat out of balance. Good but not quite as enjoyable as Shannon's stout or cream ale.

Shannon Brewing Co. "Irish Red"
12 oz. can, no freshness dating
Notes: A note of chocolate comes through... nice, it's not what I'd expect from an Irish-style red ale, really more of a brown ale, but I like it. It's pretty dark in color as well, but not to the point of becoming "russet". Malty in the nose with caramel, toast, darker almost-burnt sugar, and cocoa powder. Clean. The flavor follows with some spicy hops, which again is odd for the style. Pretty solidly bitter, the malt is well balanced. There's an edge of acidity that combines with the spiciness of the hops to lend a bit of harshness in the finish. A very nice dollop of yeasty fruitiness hits midway, appearing and disappearing quickly, and then returns gently in the lingering finish with more of a dark-skinned fruit note. Overall very nice with some interesting quirks.
