Says amber ale on one part of the label but pale ale on another part of the label and here.

Sure enough has an amber colored appearance when poured. Good retention on 1/2" of white head. Aroma was grain. I'm thinking zero dry hopping on this, or in the alternative, if there was dry hopping, it was with old school bittering hops (or maybe even Simcoe).

Taste was an amber ale. If your first and possibly only foot forward is two row and carared, I dunno what to say about it being a pale ale in this day and age (or even yesteryear, this isn't that new of a phenomenon, I'm something like a phenomenon). Substantial caramel and lesser toffee feels in the taste and mouthfeel.

If this is a pale ale, its closer to an English pale ale. If its an amber, eh its ok. If its an American pale ale, I dunno you missed from guidelines realistically even in 2016 when it was last made. Pike is a solid brewery, but they are super late to the new recipe game, I don't think they updated this, they just quit making it.

This beer will surely disappoint the masses stuck on the "IPA of the day" trend that has been so pervasive of the last 10 years....and thats a good thing. However, great for those that prefer more of a malt overtone without being too sweet and especially those of you tired of feeling every "best" beer really is just a nasty exercise in doing witch-hazel shots. I have had very few beers that combine such a great balance of hops and malt as this brew. I have served this beer at many a summer function and consistently get unsolicited exceptional great comments on this brew. Again, if you enjoy being stuck on the "IPA of the day", this beer is not for you.

Beautiful amber, solid malt backbone. crisp an clean but a fruit yeast adds dimension. This was one of the first ales that introduced me to the craft beer movement. A classic!
