This was my first time trying anything from this brewery. Decanted from a bomber bottle

A - poured a deep orange color with a 1/2 inch of head, no real lacing

S - no big hop aroma, a hint of pine? the malt aroma came thru more than the hop

T - had the bottle not said IPA I would have thought it to be a pale ale

M - ok

I checked BA for the overall score before I bought it. This beer was very disappointing to me and I didn't finish the bottle. Maybe I got an old brew which would explain the lack of hop prescence. (no date on bottle) I won't buy this again but might try it fresh on tap.

Bomber poured into my Gulden Draak tulip.

The pour yielded a very lovely light maple hue with a nicely formed white head. Bands of white lace and well retained. Wonderfully clear. The nose, however, is weak at best. I get the slightest hint of earthiness, some crystalized grain, and a touch of pine. Everything is there, it's just... well... weak! I feel like I'm struggling to get a whiff of something here. The flavor gives forth a less than assertive pine with even less grapefruit. I can definitely taste the malts: a blend of sweetness and cereal character. But this doesn't really strike me as an IPA. Weird, out of place alcoholic warmth in the finish. Texture is a middle of the road body that doesn't really give much to talk about. I feel like this beer lost me shortly after presenting itself in the glass. Everything seems muted, leaving me guessing and trying to find redeeming qualities, but failing. I really enjoyed Pike's xxx Stout but this is simply not cutting it. An American Pale Ale, sure I'll buy that. An IPA? Nope.

Reviewed 2/10/2009 (bottle):

Pours a pretty clear orange amber color body, with an average frothy white head. Sweet malty hoppy aroma, some bitterness. English beer smelling, but somewhat weak. Sweet bitter taste. Somewhat bitter, but mostly sweet maltiness. English malt tasting. Almost a our bitterness. Not dry, very wet tasting. Malty semi-bitter aftertaste. Lightly carbonated.

Bottled: unk

Pours a honey color with plenty of yeast globs. Broken sheet of light cream foam. Smells like earthy hops, a touch of grapefruit and resin - standard NW style, but sans artistry. Tastes bitter with biscuit and warm malts. Really simple flavor with little left to ponder. Medium bodied with moderate carb and an off-dry finish. Meh.

Hazed light copper. Just a skimming of a head. Lace is minimal. Not a lot on the nose. Almost smells like cinnamon and corrinader. Nothing of hop interest though. Disappointing. Flavor is a little dry and spicy. Bitterness is not clean, but rather obtrusive and a little astringent. Malts are weak, but toffeeish in nature. Body is about medium. Nothing I'd buy again....even if it were available at a store near me.

A solid pour into my 25cl tulip glass produces a three-finger thick, light tan colored head. The beer is an amber tinged, copper hue that shows an almost clear, copper color when held up to the light. The aroma is not overwhelmingly hoppy, but is hop dominated with notes of grapefruit, orange juice, tangerine zest and a touch of lychee. There is some malt character noticeable in the nose as well with a bit of sticky crystal malt, lightly toasted malt, a bit of biscuit character or perhaps more of a cracker like note of grain.

A bit thin somehow with a washed out citrus hop character, both of which have me wondering if it is my palate or the beer. There is a solid hop bitterness here that resides throughout the flavor profile. Lingering in the finish is both the hop bitterness as well as a thin, but sweet crystal malt character that just allows some citrus character to linger for a bit; really what ends up lingering in the long finish is a bit of herbal / menthol character and the hop bitterness. Somehow the citrus hop character, in combination with the crystal malt and body, just comes off as being thin and wan. Crystal malt character contributes a distracting flavor similar to sweet tea.

Not that great of an IPA, seems a bit washed out and, due to the lack of hop character, a bit too dominated by crystal malt flavors.

What a dissapointment. Pours a light golden amber with a tiny head that did stay the same through the entire session. Lacing was average, noticable but nothing great. The smell was of funky hops and caramel. I noticed some spices such as cinnamon as well, maybe nutmeg. A little nature wiff as well. The taste was a little off balance, the bitterness of the hops while strong was not pleasant, slightly off beat, the caramel sweetness seemed raw and thin. Very dissapointing. Medium bodied, probably won't try again.

Opened bomber that had NOT been agitated and lost about 2-3 inches of beer as it spewed from the top with torrential carbonation. When I tried to pour into pint glass very carefully, I received one inch of beer and the rest of the glass was a hard, tan head that looked like a solid iceberg. Trust me, I know how to pour a beer and this one was impossible(old, bad?, I do not know. Taste is not bad but not as hoppy as I would expect after seeing the 60 IBU note. Lots of citrus and orange/tangerine. Trust me, let the head die down before drinking, the head is so bitter.................Overall, do not know if I got a bad or old bottle, but this was not impressive at all. I can still taste the horribly bitterness from the head!!Also, carbonation is way too much !!!!

A- Dark amber color. Minimal white head at the pour, dissipating to nothing in seconds.

S- The smell of wet newspaper covers most of the muted malt and very faint citric hop smells, which are just barely detectable.

T- Bready malt up front with hop dryness. Mid palate is malty, and the finish is hop bitterness.

M, D - Medium feel, with average drinkability

Cloudy in color
white head
dirty amber
lots of sediment in the last pour

The taste of this beer reminds me of Ballast point big eye if it were completely unfiltered. Not bad but leaves something to be desired.

A: cloudy, orange/amber; head dissipates quickly
S: clean, direct, one dimensional, not very intense or complex; navel orange, pineapple
T: not much. Low intensity, clean, no noticeable hop or malt character; hint of bitterness at the end. Disappointing how boring it is.
M: on the lighter side. Fine.

With so many good IPAs out there, I certainly wouldn't buy this one again.

Pours a clear orange color with a small white head that dissipates quickly and leaves minimal lacing on the glass. Heavy carbonation is visibly rising throughout the pint glass.

Aroma is of citrus and floral hops and a tinge of caramel malt.

Taste is of grapefruit citrus and floral hops, but watered down and subdued. The malt backbone is weak, but detectable. Overall weak and insubstantial IPA.

Mouthfeel is thin and fizzy with a disappointing finish. Drinkable, but not something I'd purchase again.

This beer poured an amber brown with a light head that settled into a light lace. A nice hops spice aroma. This beer has all the standard IPA qualities. There is a nice balanced hops spice that settles into a sweet hops aftertaste. The beer is clean and crisp with a smooth feel. In all this is a nice high quality IPA.

No bottled on or best buy date.

What can I say, everything about this beer was average...

Poured a hazy amber with an average white head with average retention. Smell is a bit of pine resin, citrus hops and malt just sort of lingering. Just an average smell. Taste is a somewhat acrid blend of floral and citrus hops with a slightly bready malt backbone. Somethings just not quite right here and I can't put my finger on it. Mouthfeel is just, well, average. A bit on the thin side. As far as drinkability, the acrid aftertaste made it a more of a chore than a pleasure to finish a bomber.

I think if you're in the mood for an average IPA, this fits the bill.

A- pours orange with a huge frothy white two inch head. Clumpy lacing, wooo.

S- tropical citrus fruits..

T- A certain sour(?) citrus, kinda of bready. Hmm. Its kinda weird :/

M- Medium mouthfeel, smooth.

D/O- After their DIPA I was expecting big things from this one but I was kind of let down. Chalk it up to self-made inner hype. Id like to try this again to reaffirm what I'm gathering.

Poured nice and amber, good head. Dirty hop aroma. Toasted malt. Quite toasty. Cereal. This is an old school ipa, so I was not expecting a hop bomb. Toasted ceral malt flavor. Some hop bitterness. Bran cereal flavor, not my favorite. Smooth and refreshing. Flavor is just too strong in a bad way. Makes it less drinkable.

Bomber to pint glass. No date or batch number.

A: Only 1 finger of head is produced after a semi-vigorous pour. Very light khaki in color, creamy in texture and medium retention leading to a lingering bubbly film. The body is very hazy and orange cream in color. Fair lacing is left on the glass.

S: Above average malts of caramel, bread and grain. The pine resiny/grassy hops are almost overwhelmed by the malts. Light earthy yeast contribution.

T: Light dust and cardboard flavors come through. At least the flavor duration is long and the 60 IBUs produce a bigger-than-expected bitterness.

M: The body is medium-light and a touch thin, somewhat creamy.

D: Not much to discuss here, very average and nothing special. Leaves a lot to be desired.

A- Pours a crystal clear golden orange with about a half inch of head. The head quickly dissipates, leaving behind a persistent ring of lace at the top and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.

S- Tart, lemony aroma from the hops is backed by bready and caramelly malts. Not too complex, but pretty nice.

T- The hops come through first with a bit of a zesty, lemony tartness that is soon joined by a touch of caramel and cracker-like malt. A leafy, tea-like bitterness pushes through on the finish.

M- On the light side of medium and smooth to the point of being a little watery. Carbonation level is fairly low.

D- Eh, it's pretty boring overall. I'll finish the bomber but I don't really want more.

Pretty much your run-of-the-mill IPA. It's not terrible, but it's not good either. At least it's cheap (3.99 a bomber), but even so, I doubt I'll be revisiting it.

On tap poured into a sampling glass.

Pours a very clear amber with a small white head with lots of what lacing. Nose is tame without much going for it.

Taste is well balanced, malty with a light hop bite but not over he top, fairly earthy with a smooth finish. Carbonation is light.

22oz bomber bottle poured into a pint glass. No bottle date found on the label or the bottle.

A: Clear, amber color with 2 finger head that stuck around for a little bit. Nice lacing.

S: No real IPA nose (my opinion). I got more malts then hops that you usually find.

T: Much like the nose, the taste wasn't that impressive. I wanted more from this West Coast IPA, and it just wasn't there. No horrible, as I drank it, but thought there'd be more.

M: Good mouthfeel. Wasn't overly chewy or mouth puckering.

D: Very drinkable beer, but the questions is will you want another one?

Overall, fair not great on this one. BUT considering the price was so low, it is worth trying some of their line now and in the future.

"Brewery direct" from totalwine. Listed as EIPA on shelf talker, as AIPA here. Reviewing as something inbetween as it seems to fall between the two poles. Pours a mostly clear dark amber with two finger cream colored head, fades to thin cap leaving a few blobs of lace. Smell: the operative word here is subdued - leafy, lemony hop, tea, toffee, ultra yeasty bread. Taste: toffee, earthy and slightly citric hopping. Low to medium bodied, semi dry, sweet finish. It's a bit lacking in character though not entirely unenjoyable.

Clear reddish amber with a modest foam in the Blanche de Chambly tall glass. Faint woody aroma. Poured from the 22 oz bottle purchased at Safeway in Anacortes.

This is pretty herbal and on the dirty side. Aftertaste is unrelenting bitterness. As it warms up, the sweet malt opens a little. Sharp and acidic with a resiny intensity. Finish is just that gummy bitterness.

Served in a 12oz bottle.
Very bland for an IPA, the hops were just not strong enough. Where's the flavor?! Where's the bitter?! Don't get me wrong, it's a decent beer, but I expect more hoppiness out of an IPA. The one plus is that since the hops are not that strong, it's easy to have a few of these. But, honestly, that's not really a good thing.
