Poured from a bottle. Dark red in color with light brown head. Cereal grain aroma with a hint of hops. Taste is a good blend of cereal grains, malt and a mix of hops. A bit of bitterness in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is good. Overall beer is great.

I've had this quite a few times over the last twenty or more years, but I discover I never reviewed or rated it. I guess I was remembering the barrel aged version, which I reviewed in 2014 and again in 2021. But the base beer, I never reviewed it until now.

Kilt Lifter is now in a 12 ounce can, and the ABV is now 7.6%, up from the BA site listing of 6.5%. It's still recognizably the same beer as I remember from past occasions, if one can trust the memory of a 75 year old guy. It's caramely, medium bodied, a bit hoppy, a little sweet (not too sweet), and quite malty ... about what you might expect for the style. It's definitely not as strongly flavored as some of the better Scotch Ales, but it's certainly OK. Extra points for the good name.

Look for the wood aged version of this, if you can find it.

Dark amber ale with elements of peat, wood, caramel and smoky malt. Skin of a beige head, medium weight, tangy palate with a slow, mild alcohol burn. Nice sipper for a fall day.

Draft: Poured a clear burgundy color ale with a medium off-white foamy head with OK retention and light carbonation. Aroma of caramelized malt with light toffee notes is enjoyable. Taste is also a mix of caramelized malt notes, some toffee with some residual sugar notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not the most complex offering from the style but enjoyable nonetheless.

This is my first scotch ale, so I have nothing similar to contrast it to, but I was not very impressed with this beer. I go along with the mouth puckering taste and feel comment of another reviewer. The smell was fine, similar to a scotch whiskey. Color was ok. All in all ok, but nothing gry.

Not much aroma but a very nice flavor. Very smooth. Reminds me of a barrel aged quad in a way.

Had a bottle. Tatse was sour, acidic and slightly hoppy tones. It pours a nice ruby red, and smells decent, but the taste and mouth feel are puckering.
