Poured into a glass mug. The beer pours dark brown and falls into the glass as a jet black liquid with a thick, creamy tan head that dissipates slowly. Some webbed lacing trails behind the retreating head. There are aromas of dark roasted malts, black coffee, chocolate, and a little prune. The beer is very roasty in flavor from the dark malts. I get that coffee and prune from the nose, but also a little licorice. I only get a touch of chocolate there, but it isn't much. The body is full and creamy. The roasty aftertaste lingers in the mouth and the finish is slightly dry. The beer drinks fairly easily due to the fact that it is smooth. This is an excellent beer. If you like your stouts very roasty, this one is for you.

Glass: Snifter
Black in color with thick rocky mocha colored head.
There is a lot of chocolate in the aroma with small hints of coffee.
Coffee and black licorice are very strong flavors in the front of this beer, these turn over to alcohol warming and hops. Full bodied with a thick creamy texture and nice lively carbonation. Lots of alcohol warming and hops bitterness followed by a dry lingering finish.
A great tasting stout that has a nice yet unexpected northwest hoppiness to it.

22 oz bottle, no bottled-on date, poured into a pint glass.

A- Pours a thick, dark black, produces an inch of creamy mocha head, has nice retention and lacing.

S- Nice aroma of roasted grain, dark chocolate and hints of coffee and dark fruit.

T- Similar flavor, lots of roasted grain, chocolate, dark fruit, with a nice bitter roasted, char and smoke flavor.

M- Full-bodied, smooth feel, bitter, dry finish.

O- A very nice stout overall, has great roasty flavors and a nice creamy, milky feel, highly drinkable and well worth trying.

22 oz. bottle, shared with friends.
Pours pitch black, thick almost oily legs hanging on the glass. Tight beige head lasts nicely before fading to a floating cap. Thick, foamy lacing all around the glass.
Smells of roasted malt, some coffee, cocoa.
Taste of some coffee to start, bittersweet chocolate. More bitterness than expected on the end, earthy hops.
Good carbonation, medium body, creamy and smooth mouth feel.
Overall, a good stout, but more hoppy bitterness than malty sweetness. A plus for some, a minus for others.
Personal preference gives it top marks.
