look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Pours dark, almost black but a slight caramel hint like very dark soda. Thick khaki head. Aroma is malt, chocolate, some tobacco.

Taste is roasty malts, chocolate, a somewhat cloying sweetness like bubblegum soaked in the vat overnight. A burnt ash comes in halfway and there's a dry finish. Apparently true to style. Aftertaste not nearly as nice as the beginning in my opinion. Burnt porter feel crossed with roast, increasingly bitter as it warms.

Comes in thick and black. Tan head, 1". Aroma has some burnt notes providing coffee, anise, chocolate malt, roast.

Taste is plenty well hopped, still hitting those licorice notes, slightly sweet, more bitter. Chocolate malt comes out more and more as it warms. Relatively dry finish. Coats the mouth. Don't really like the bomber format for this, but it is well done, even if it is cost prohibitive in such a format.

On tap at the Pike Place market

A: Black with some ruby highlights. A tan one finger head that lingered.

S: Semi sweet chocolate, anise, coffee, cocoa. A light bitterness pervades.

T: Follows nose with a charred chocolate and coffee opening. Light bitter coffee interlaces with caramel. Sweet, robust.

M: Medium with medium to heavy, chewy carbonation.

O: A great example of the style. A terrific sipper along with a chocolate chip cookie.

Rich aroma of dark chocolate, roasted coffee and malts. Good length, bitterness rounded by the sweetness. More dark(er) chocolate and coffee on the palate, with slight caramel. Sweet finish evolves toward more bitter chocolate linger... almost like chocolate with slight charcoal fire finish. Overall, great example of the style. Worth seeking out to try.

This is very straight stout with roasty taste, a bit of coffee and chocolate. The way i like it. Can feel alcohol but not too much. The good one.

Appearance: Deep amber in color, verging on black, with a modest, somewhat coarse tan head, which slowly fades. Thin, fine-beaded lacing utterly coats the glass walls.

Aroma: Spicy sweet alcohol presents, as well as cold coffee, bitter cocoa, and deeply roasted malt.

Taste: Opens with robust roasted malt, soon followed by cold coffee, roasted coffee beans, bitter cocoa, and sweet alcohol. As the taste progresses, the coffee notes and the roasted malt intensify. The finish is dominated by bitter chocolate and dark roasted malt.

Mouth feel: Smooth and full, quite soft.very pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: A very nice example of the style, not to be missed.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twenty-two ounce brown glass bomber with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium

Pours a finger of tan head on a black body.
The aroma is black licorice, smoke, anise, roasted malt and coffee. Nice.
The taste is coffee bitter, a touch of smoke and a little malt sweetness.
The texture is thicker.
This is an amazing stout.
