A - Poured standard 12 oz can into standard pint glass. At first, the brew appeared to lend itself towards a witbier look but as it settled it becamea hefe. Nailed the appearance of a German style hefe.

S - I was disappointed when I first cracked the can as it seemed so muted. After pouring, the nose on this one exploded. Banana, clove, biscuit, bread. It's all there. Unbelievable. They nailed the German Hefe smell too!

T - Are you kidding me? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This IS a German Hefe! It's unbelievable. I have never tasted a domestically brewed and bottled Hefe that even came close to emulating the genius of the German's Hefe brewing techniques. This beer not only matches the flavor profile but literally adds it's own flair. Genius!

M - Clean and Crisp.

D - Extremely good. I'm giving this beer a solid 4. Truth is, if I compared this one to other American made Hefes, it would be very close to the "mythic" 5. However, I have to look at the big picture. With that being said, this beer is fantastic in every sense of the word. If you like German Hefes and thought that "no way, no how" could an American brewer ever come close- try this one immediately. I desperately want to try this one on tap. Simply amazing.

Our local fishwrap's beer columnist recently remarked on the arrival of MIA Beer Co.'s beers in our area & especially on how awestruck she was with the Art Deco graphics on the CANs. I have to agree. I attended CAN School with Crown Bottling during CBC last year in PHL & part of it was on the application of painted labels onto aluminum CANs. The graphics really Pop!, especially CANpared to their paper label CANterparts. I am now doing a brewery horizontal with these CANs & the spent CANs will be earmarked for Jeff Lebo's CANlection.

From the CAN: "Welcome To Miami"; "Bienvenido A Miami".

Being as that it was a Hefeweizen, I agitated the beer while still in the CAN & once I had Crack!ed it open, I CANmneced an inverted glug to ensure that all of its hazy goodness would be in suspension. I don't want to keep yinz in suspense, so I will tell you that my actions created a massive three-plus fingers of fizzy, foamy, eggshell-white head with modest retention. Color was a deeply-hazy/lightly-cloudy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Hmm. Nose smelled like banana bread in my glass! OMFG. I dislike the style for this very reason, but if you are going in, go all in! Banana esters & bready malts. No bubble gum, though. At least, not on the nose. Mouthfeel was on the thin side, not watery, but not much beyond it, either. The taste was actually more to my liking than the nose had led me to expect. There were enough clove esters to a) be perceptible & b) hold the banana in check. Yes, the banana was still evident, but not cloying as it was on the nose. Finish was semi-dry, certainly quaffable, but it just was not my bag. YMMV.

On tap at the Craft Beer Factory in Marietta, GA.
Hazy pale golden with a fine, durable, white head.
Light body, smooth but a touch watery.
Well balanced flavor with less banana and more complexity than usual for style.

MIA Beer Co. "Miami Weiss"
12 fl. oz. can, coded "AUG/31/16 22:3" and sampled on DEC/23/2016, "BREWED & CANNED BY: BREW HUB"
$2.29 @ Knightly Spirits, Orlando, FL

Notes via stream of conscious while tasting: Poor head retention and lacing, not a good start. Hazy orange gold body. It doesn't seem that carbed... (sipped) mmmm, hard to tell, very fine bubbles, zesty but not biting (sipped multiple times) it's probably about 2.4 volumes of CO2/liter which is much lower than a Bavarian hefe normally is, but it's a can and it's American so we kind of have to let that go, right ? Aroma of wheat, banana, apple, clove, light citrus, and perhaps a phenolic that's a slight bit like plastic (not in a bad way). The flavor adds in a pleasant rounding sweetness from the malt that pulls it all together. There's a slight tartness that accentuates/works with the fruitiness, and balances the sweetness and brings it to a dry conclusion, so it's sweet, tart, and then dry as it fades in the finish - all the while showing fruit that also includes some dark-skinned fruits and pear. Superb! Interesting from start to finish, and fairly complex - yet also balanced despite the sweet-tart character. Really nice, so from a poor start it comes to a great finish. Also notable, it's labeled at 6 % ABV, which is slightly high.

A thanks to the Hue Hefner of Hefeweizen, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, light banana and spices. Taste is big on green apples, light banana, a bit of cloves. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a mediocre beer.
