It says it's a pale ale, but it smells and tastes like one hell of a juicy IPA...

Every now and then you run into a pale ale that is really a closet IPA - this is one of those. Super juicy to the nose and mouth, this pale has that hop punch to the palate you find in some NE IPAs. So, I gave and I took some style points for stepping out. Overall, a very good beer, one that should be experience as often as possible.

Riding high on the hops of Citra, Mosaic and Galaxy, the MIA Beer Co. pulls out this universal cheat code for hops to ensure that their pale ale finds favor with Florida hop head.

Medium amber and building a firm off white froth, Mega Mix teases the nose with a rife perfume of over ripened citrus, stone fruit and stemmy herbs. It's slight citrusy dankness is followed by an initial taste of caramel, pecan and and medium toasted savory taste.

As the flavors unfold, the caramel and honey stews about the middle palate and soon joined by macerated oranges, grapefruit, mango and apricot, all seemingly on the slightly bruised variety. Building a medium bitterness on the late palate, a grassiness of hemp, spruce and fresh grassiness adds balance to the linger of malt.

Medium bodied and malty dry in texture, the beer's even keel bitterness allows for a moderate dryness to join the moderate sweetness with the hop spice wining out slightly in a medium length tea-like finish of peppery herbs and fruit peels.

5 oz pour on tap. This is a super crushable pale ale. Huge citrusy/tropical fruit aroma and flavor with a soft, pillowy mouthfeel. No alcohol comes through. Delicious.

slightly hazy gold color with good white cap and lacing.

Aroma of citrus, piney, herbal hops with a bit of yeasty bread.

Taste is of floral, spicy hops well integrated together. I also get a bit of grapefruit zest and something that tastes like peach blossoms smell. Fairly complex and these flavors blend well together. Just a small amount of bready malt but enough to offset the hops somewhat.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

A Pale Ale that another brewer might well call an IPA, which is just an observation on my part. It is a well crafted brew however labeled.

12 oz can from ATL with a April 2018 canning date.
Pours with a very hazy, amber body topped by a tall off-white head that has good retention and that leaves loads of lacing.
Pungent, hoppy aroma.
The flavor has high strength and moderate bitterness for style. Good balance between the hops and malts with notes of tropical fruits, caramel and light bread. Juicy.
Medium+ body with medium+ carbonation.
Overall: drinks like a mild N.E. IPA.

12oz can served in a tulip. Canned on 01/30/18.

Pours a hazy amber, largish head, moderate carbonation. Smell is fruity and hoppy, but fairly mild.

Taste is mildly fruity, more piney and resinous. Intense for a pale.

Mouthfeel is dry, somewhat gritty. Overall, refreshing beer.

A: The beer is hazy amber yellow in color and has some visible particulates floating in suspension. It poured with a finger high off white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of tropical fruit hops are present in the nose—passionfruit seems to stand out in particular.
T: The taste has moderately strong flavors of orange citrus and tropical passionfruit along with a light amount of associated bitterness from the hops.
M: It feels medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The name of this APA is quite appropriate as the beer has an interesting blend of aromas and flavors from the variety of hops. It's more like a New England-style APA if there was such a style.

This gave me much more than I expected. Too bad it's March. I'd love to crack one of these open in July. Light golden opaque amber color, strong herby citrusy smell, deceptive sessionable flavor. A little strong for that, I suppose. Welcome to Miami indeed!

Dark golden beer with a very thin white head. Beer is close to being clear with the exception of some small sediment floating throughout the glass.
The smell is very tropical and juicy. Slight dank.
Taste is very much like the nose. Dank and juicy.
Feeling is wet.

Appearance - Pours semi transparent golden color with huge white head that lasts a good while. Lost of lacing on the glass.

Aroma - Biscuit, malt, caramel, grapefruit, orange peel and a little bit of grass and floral hops.

Taste - Strong malt backbone, grapefruit, orange, caramel.

Feel - Medium bodied well carbonated slightly bitter finish.

Overall - A decent pale ale I think this one is probably a little past it's prime.

Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is hazy, murky gold/orange in color, head is off white with light tan hint with fine to small bubbles; head laces the glass sides.

Smell is light toasty malt, muddled hops with light herbs, grass, hint of citrus.

Taste is similar with light toasted malt, muddled hop flavor with more citrus than aroma.

Mouthfeel is lightly sweet, moderate carbonation, dryness comes through a little later.

Overall a pale ale that has a minor malt component and muddled hop composition.

Thanks to JHartley for this one. 12oz can poured into 12oz tulip. Poured a lightly hazy light golden yellow color with almost 2 inches of bubbly white head that dissipated quickly and left light-moderate lacing.

The aroma was a huge blast of fruit in the nose, with no real malt or grain in support. Pretty similar flavor profile, mostly fruit hops, with a slight hint of pine.

The body was just on the light side of medium for the style (as, I suspect, would be appreciated in an area like South Florida), and finished dry and clean. Drinkability was very good, the beer went down quick and crisp, and I could see knocking back a few of these. Overall, a very nice brew, one that's worth your time if you get the chance.

Light cloudy golden color with a big white foamy head. Lacing left on the glass as the head recedes. Nice citrusy aroma. Sparkly mouthfeel; It feels the way a good beer should feel. Very rich, full, smooth, mild flavor. Just a hint of hops. Nice!

I asked if they had an IPA in a restaurant in Key West. They didn't but said they had something kind of like an IPA and gave me Mega Mix. I enjoyed it so much I had another. Finally got around to getting a six. Good beer.

I tried this beer at Bottlenose brewery. It poured a mostly clear orangish with thin white head that did not leave any lace. The scent had hints of citrus peel. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with citrus presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

A thanks to the prince of pale ales, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a hazy golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is fruity, grapefruit, oranges, some pineapple. Taste is the same, lots of citrus, light malts, fairly bitter for the style. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

It pours hazy and with a big head. The aroma is floral, with intense notes of caramel from the malt. The taste is similarly strong on the caramel notes and supported by some intense and lingering bitterness that lasts for a ling time. Some dank in the aftertaste. Fairly chewable and with mild carbonation.

A 12 oz can poured into a tulip.

Look- An amber and orange mix with 2 foamy fingers of off-white head. Nice lacing

Smell- Nice fruity aroma of peach, orange, and grapefruit mix. It reminds me of some of the NE IPAs.

Taste- A nice mix of mango, peach, and grapefruit with hoppy bite. It is super juicy with a dry hop like finish. The juicy flavor sticks with the beer from the first drink until the last.

Mouthfeel- Nice carbonation and a medium body that balances out fantastically.

Overall- The first time I tried this was on vacation in Florida and it was definitely the beer of the trip. Went back for a football game and grabbed a case to bring back. It drinks more like an IPA. Super drinkable if you want a juice bomb with just enough hop to give it a little kick.

Smell is orange and grapefruit with cracker, lightly pungent rug and wood, as well as an almost metallic note.

Taste is orange and lemon with cracker, hints of woody pine and rug.

Feel is moderately light with a mild froth and a semi-wet finish.

Our local fishwrap's beer columnist recently remarked on the arrival of MIA Beer Co.'s beers in our area & especially on how awestruck she was with the Art Deco graphics on the CANs. I have to agree. I attended CAN School with Crown Bottling during CBC last year in PHL & part of it was on the application of painted labels onto aluminum CANs. The graphics really Pop!, especially CANpared to their paper label CANterparts. I am now doing a brewery horizontal with these CANs & the spent CANs will be earmarked for Jeff Lebo's CANlection.

From the CAN: "Welcome To Miami"; "Bienvenido A Miami".

I keep reading of a turbidity in this beer, which I take to be a personal challenge. Upon CANducting the Crack!, I followed up with a gentle Glug into the awaiting glass. An in-glass swirl raised to fingers of foamy, rocky, bone-white head with moderate retention. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) & I will be watching to see if it clears, indicative of a chill haze. Nose smelled like eco-friendly cleaners - pine and sweet orange! In the Navy, we got away from the chemical solvents in the late-1980s & everything smelled so much better when doing maintenance & cleaning. This was like an amalgam of cleaning agents. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste followed the nose, although the orange peel was stronger with the pine underlying it for support. This was more like an APA than some recent ones which seemed to forget what they were & tasted more like an AIPA, instead. It seemed to be clearing as it warmed, so chill haze was not out of the question. I really liked the commingling of the flavors & the way that they were not overpowering. Finish was semi-dry to dry, very refreshing & quaffable. My fave of theirs, so far.

Pale golden unfiltered look. Nice head. Smells hoppy like an India Pale Ale. Smooth tasting and delicious. Drinks like an IPA. Nice creamy smooth mouthfeel. A very good beer. My waiter at the Craft Bar recommended it in Destin, Fla and it was the last six pack so I grabbed it. Glad I did. Poured into a tumbler. Can dated 07/18/17 14:00 CHEERS.

12 oz can dated 7/24/17, Brew Hub, Lakeland FL

Hazy, near opaque golden copper. Cheery finger's white head. Full curtain lacing and a persistent ring with fine islands of bubbles.
Strong mango grapefruit aroma when first poured. Cantaloupe melon, light pine.
Taste has grapefruit, sour stonefruit, pepper, light malts.
Smooth, dry mouthfeel, consistent across the tongue, plenty of carbonation.
I was happy to find this in New York, since I never run across it in North Florida. Met all my expectations. Hope to find it again.

T/F: Follows the nose. Light malt backbone with a strong grapefruit forward hop presence. Nice bitterness.... mostly balanced. Some citrus rind, pine, and mild fruit in the mix. Light in body.

O: A nice and easy drinking IPA. Nicely done, and one I'd drink again.
