On tap at Haymaker, NYC, it pours black as night with a small head that faded on the quick side and left minimal lacing. The nose was roasty with dark chocolate, smoked grains, molasses, vanilla, cocoa powder, burnt coffee grinds and burnt chocolate malts, making for a very malty nose that was both rich and complex.

Like the nose the flavor was very roasty with dark chocolate, vanilla, smoked grains, molasses, cocoa powder, burnt coffee grinds and then more chocolate, peat moss, faint marshmallow, nutty accents, cold brewed coffee and light piney notes. The ABV is well hidden and the ancho chilis didn’t show up until the brew settled in my belly and then the heat flared up. Much smoother than expected, this was an overall really tasty beer.

Pours jet black with nice light brown head. It's really apparent from the nose that this is an Omnipollo collab. Lots of chocolate ice cream up front. Tons of hazelnut, but not a lot of Chile pepper spice. Getting some nice roasted malt notes.Taste is nice, although perhaps a bit too bitter at this point. Feels like some age (maybe 6 months?) would make this nice and smooth. Getting the pepper spice, chocolate, licorice, milk, and some coffee. Definitely hazelnut there as well. Really good, but would like to see this mellow out a bit. Mouthfeel is very creamy.

Dark black. Thick bodied. Pours like motor oil. Smell is big on hazelnut and the flavor is much the same. Reminds me of a cycle beer. Great flavor, but seems very one dimensional. Love the heavy mouthfeel.

Poured a black body with khaki lace ring down the glass. Intense hazelnut aroma that is actually too strong and slightly off putting for me. Great beer but a little too nutty for my liking but with that stated it's smooth, milky slick, fuller bodied with nutty finish and marshmallows puffiness adds flavor (this might be only time ever I use adjective puffy in a beer review).

Fantastic stout---powerful aroma and flavors of vanilla and hazelnuts... nice thick body, viscous mouthfeel and creamy finish. If you like nutty flavored stouts you'll really dig this one.... Not really getting any chili heat but not really missing it either... some coffee flavor, and while sweet, not overly so---I have no problem downing a nice big pour, which I do with overly sweet stouts! This is my first J Wakefield stout, and if this is any indication of their quality--for an entry level stout especially---I can't wait for the big boys waiting in my beer fridge (including a Bake!)....

Insane smell once you open the bottle. Hazelnut marshmallow goodness. This beer is excellent. I get tons of hazel nut and a dry finish which definitely reminds me of freshly consumed egg yolk. Nice complexity but just a nice overall experience. Seek it out and enjoy.

On tap at the brewery. Black. Smells of sweet chocolate and coffee. Maybe marshmallows? Just a hint of pepper and spice. Tastes of marshmallows. Sweet milk chocolate. Coffee is a little bitter. Very sweet. Pretty tasty though. Very heavy and sluggish. Boozy. While it is tasty, there was no way I was finishing a pint of this by myself.
