Taste: semi sweet, mandarin orange peel zest, crisp refreshing, some floral hops. Same with the nose. bright orange juice hue, unfiltered, with white head some lace in taster cup. Medium body. Drinkable for hot weather. Liquid sunshine.

Had on tap. Very, very light saison. Dry and crisp finish, but misses out on full saison body. Taste is full of orange zest, again potent but dry and light with some hops and yeast to play second fiddle. Good gateway summer beer

Tasted in a Spiegelau saison glass from a 12 fl oz can on April 21, 2018. Melt your face on this deliciously dry citrus saison built for long days irradiating under the evil star.

A bomber with no visible date poured in a 12oz. tulip.

Look- Pours a fairly transparent orange revealing a generous two fingers of soapy white foam. It slowly settles revealing no lacing.

Smell- Orange zest, grass, yeast and some mild funk.

Taste- Orange zest, wet straw/grass, mild funk.

Feel- Light and slick up front finishing slightly bitter and very dry.

Overall- A saison that drinks a little like an IPA. A citrus profile with a nice grassy slightly funky finish. Perfect for warm weather imbibing!

Citrus Saison brewed with Belgian yeast, lemon and orange zest, cardamom, and NZ hops.

A - pours a dull, translucent gold with small head of loose bubbles that doesn't stick around.

S - Very green hop forward upon first sniff, which opened up into a huge citrus nose. Lemon rind and citrus pith bitterness in the front. After a deep inhale there was a big orange wedge smell that was like half-time at a park district soccer game, backed up by some vague, smooth malts. Slight lemon dish soap quality at the very end.

T - I was taken aback by the tartness from the first sip. The tartness up front is balanced by malt sweetness and citrus juiciness in the middle, but the finish changes to a light, bitter pine hoppiness and that dish soap flavor. Got a small hint of some belgian yeast.

M - Very spritzy, like a La Croix (which I'm not a fan of) and had a wheaty feel.

O - The orange wedge smell and taste was pretty incredible, but the mouthfeel and dish soap quality detracted from this heavy-handed citrus saison.

A good introduction to this brewery and I will speedup my trying their other offerings. (This is a difficult promise given how many breweries are popping up in Chicago.)
To me, the test of a good saison is if it goes well with garlicky foods that use tomatoes (since I eat that half the time in the evening.)

While my bottle initially produced a nice head, it did not last and left a very murky blonde.
The aroma and taste clearly fit the brew's Orange name. But the pepper becomes more prominent than I prefer... except my first tasting had a lucky pairing with a peppery pizza... so that ended well.

My second tasting sees a .25 decline in the Mouth. I paired it with a tomato sauce on pasta. This almost passed the test.
But I have come to recognize Illuminated intended Orange Sunshine as a nice beer on a hot day, without much alcohol or staying power. So it is best to drink it sessionably instead of insisting on pairing it with food.
