Style: American Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Ponies are cool. They can fly and make magic and have the prettiest tales. But people have hands. Ponies don't. With hands, people can drink beer (usually). Like this beer here. This beer is for Bronies, not phonies. Huell Melon, Motueka, Citra & Rakau hops swim together in rainbows of citrus, strawberry & orchard fruits. You can even share it with your pony, Brony. But you'll probably have to help it drink it. Because ponies don't have hands.

I'd had this in bombers before this recent run of May 9-dated 4-packs of 16 oz cans. This is up there with Illumie standards like Spoonful and Fruitful, but there's something missing in the overall feel of this one. Kind of thins out in the overall mouth taste.

Appearance - The beer had an enourmous head, so much so that is was like pouring foam into a glass. When it settled, the beer was a pale yellow color with a white head.

Smell - The nose was dry with light fruit hints.

Taste - The beer had notes of melon, strawberry, honey, and light bitter grass. The fruit notes seemed content to stsy in the back as if another fruit were to boldlybleap to the front. The finish had light fruitiness with much of the bitterness gone.

Mouthfeel - The body was thick enough to carry all of the fruit notes.

Overall - I'm not sure if the overcarbonation caused this, but the profile seemed to light for such a bold brewery.

Hazy, light yellow body, like pineapple juice; very dense, thick head, sticky and clinging. Esters galore; pear, peach, pineapple; smells of powdered sugar. Plethora of flavors: tart, tangy, juicy, sweet and bitter; white grapefruit; faint presence of light malt; some alcohol notes. Medium-heavy body; soft and smooth overall; primarily dry finish.

An intense beer full of hop presence in the smell and taste. Bitter and juicy and presenting some excellent eye candy. An exceptional beer...

I am less & less into bottles & as such, I am getting away from them more & more. That said, I am also a subscriber to the Tavour service & there are some that show up in the feed that are too enticing to pass up.

From the Bottle: "7% Double Dry Hopped Double IPA"; "Let's Be Magic Friends"; "Ponies are cool. They can fly and make magic and have the prettiest tales. But people have hands. Ponies don't. I gently Pop!ped the cap since I didn't want to harm my big Brony. I slowly decanted it into the awaiting mare, I mean, glass, watching as it reared up to from two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with great retention. The lacing that it left behind made me wonder if it hadn't simply let go of its insides & sprayed the inside of the stall, I mean glass, with its muck. Aww, don't be ashamed, Brony. Color was a murky Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). How cute! Nose gave every indication that this Brony was from the southern hemisphere, with tropical notes of mango, papaya, guava & passion fruit. Mmm, Brony, I wanna get passionate with you after so long away. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, almost creamy & I started to wonder if the Brony wasn't getting lactose in its diet or even injections! Once on my tongue, the Brony began to prance & trot around like it belonged there. Warming to its new environment, Brony invited over an old G/F of mine, Strawberry Shortcake, to join in the fun. I was thankful that it was not prancing around, but instead gliding over my tongue like a rainbow unicorn. What fun! I enjoyed its company, but I felt like I was being cheated out of the bitterness that is the hallmark of the style. When our time together was finished, I remarked on its semi-sweet, not quite semi-dry finish & it could only push its R front hoof around in the dirt as a response. 8=(

A very nice hazy ipa. The dry hop combo with the yeast, give a wonderful texture and appearance. The smell and taste are almost identical, with hops, strawberries, grapes, grapefruit, melon and orange really coming out nicely. Sneaky light and airy for everything going on

750ml bottle served in a pint glass. I don't see a date.

Pours a very hazy amber / gold, initially huge head that fades fairly slowly and leaves thick, moderately clumpy lacing. Tons of carbonation. Smell is surprisingly mild, but I get some guava and general tropicalness.

Taste is on the bitter / dark side of tropical fruit. Very ripe guava/mango, with a hoppy finish.

Mouthfeel is nice -- medium, slightly gritty, effervescent. Overall...not in love with it, but it's a good beer.

Bottled September 2017; drank 9/29/17 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque dull yellow/orange rust appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice off-white head; strong lace.

Bubblegum, grapefruit & dry grass notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Bubblegum & mild peach flavors up front; dry grass bite on the finish.

This tastes a bit like bubblegum after a 5 minute chew; decent, but you're looking forward to your next piece. Illuminated hasn't quite made the leap to prime-time NE IPA prominence, but they are above average. Hopefully soon...
