12 oz pour at taproom. Pours a deep brown verging on black with creamy chocolate milk coloured head. Aroma caramel, some dark chocolate, but with pine resin and citrus rind.
Taste follows with bready caramel malt, citrus rind, grapefruit, licorice notes, and some dank piney bitterness. That said the mouthfeel is remarkably smooth and creamy, with the hop bitterness lingering on the palate. Surprisingly good.

Pours a good shade of brown.

The aroma coming off this beer is piney, with mild xitrus and floral notes. Maybe a hint of roasty malts but not much. A bit of a funk to it.

On the palate this was surprisingly dark! Tastea much different from smell in my opinion. The taste is dominated by a floral hops, then toastt malts, with a very thick mouthfeel, even for a stout!

Delicious.

650ml bomber poured into tulip 25/1/17

A the darkest cola edge goes half way under a massive, dense, light brown foam, great retention and thick rings deep down the glass, looks great

S cocoa and mild licorice break through the hops, tropical citrus, some iced tea powder and spruce round out an odd combo that works

T juicy hops but lots of dark malt to balance it out, neither runaway with but both stay strong at the same time, pine, melon, and faint coffee I didn't smell

M has weight, enters silky and creams up, fine gritty feel, a nice bitter bite, pretty solid in this department

O well rounded with plenty going on, easy to drink and hits a beer couple cravings at once

I was happy with this one from start to finish, one of the better locals I've had recently and keeps my interest in Dandy growing.....

This is my second bottle of this stuff. Usually love this style and I've been a fan of everything I've tried from Dandy so far so I had high hopes for this one. Pours black with a finely bubbled white head. Taste has the initial roasty bitterness known for the style, but finishes lighter and fruiter than expected, which kind of threw me off. Has a bit of a creamy texture, which was different than the typical mouthful of soot feel I've come to associate with BIPAs. Not sure what they did with this one that made it different that other rendtitions I've tried, could be a lot of dry hopping or unfiltered malts, but after giving it a second chance I've gotta say it doesn't rank among my favourite CDAs, for whatever reason.

650ml bottle - it's not yet mid-winter here in Alberta, but I'm not waiting until the deepest, darkest teatime of the soul (also known as February) to crack this one open.

This beer pours a pretty solid black, with prominent amber basal edges, and a teeming tower (thanks, bottle conditioning!) of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy beige head, which leaves some splendid random gear chain lace around the glass as it very lazily recedes.

It smells of semi-sweet, roasted caramel malt, a bit of biscuity toffee, milk chocolate, candied orange and red grapefruit, mixed tropical fruit notes, and more leafy, grassy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, some free-range ashiness, bittersweet cocoa powder, muddled domestic and exotic citrus flesh, a hint of cafe-au-lait, maybe a touch of sugary black licorice, and some fading leafy, weedy, and wet pinecone verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is good and plenty in its swirling and caressing frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth, with a nice airy creaminess that intensifies as things warm up a tad. It finishes off-dry, the caramel, cocoa, and muddled fruity and green hops all partying rather nicely with each other.

Overall, this is one of the exceptions that breaks my rule of not caring for this style - the roasted 'side of the dark' (been watching a lot of Star Wars lately) is kept to a minimum, while the various hop esters carry on being part of the IPA that they want to be. Great stuff - I may be revisiting this one six weeks or so hence.
