Style: Gose

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Leipzig-Style Gose undergoes a spontaneous fermentation, similar to Belgian-style Gueuze/Lambic beers, and exhibits a complexity of acidic flavor and aroma contributed by wild yeast lactic fermentation. Lemon, lime and other citrus-like qualities are present in aroma and on the palate, which is balanced by the spicy character of added coriander and a mineral-mouthfeel from added sea salt.

12 ounce can poured into a weizen glass.

A vigorous pour produces a thick, fizzy and foamy pale white head that quickly dissipates into a layer of lace. The body is golden with spritely carbonation visible. Great clarity here. Hints of amber to the body towards the top. 4.5

I'm liking this aroma. Something very floral about it, along with a funky fruit flavor I can't quite put a name to. Some salinity, some banana notes. It's an aggressive nose. for sure. Tartness is present but mellow. 4

Funk and floral qualities continue on the palate but I'm not as enthused by the results. Still getting banana notes too. All this proceeds a tart finish and a hit of salt. I feel the flavor suffers here from over-pronounced yeastiness that imparts a floral flavor that tastes stale or canned or something else undesirable. The tartness doesn't work well with the banana and floral flavors and they clash on my tongue. 2.5

The tartness here approaches sour and there's a harsh carbonation rush that is off-putting and really affects the drinkability. This isn't nearly as smooth, refreshing or easy to drink as a good gose should be. 2.5

I couldn't finish this. Not a fan.

12 oz. can poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Very hazy orange body. Medium white head.

Smell - Light citrus. Hint of a spice, like coriander. Lots of wheat and a mineral character, too.

Taste - Yowza, it's salty. The slightest bit of tartness and some citrus. Less of the spice. And less wheat, too. A little more malty.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Definitely not as crisp as I'd like from a gose.

Overall - Too salty for me. Lingers in the aftertaste. Not offensive, just too much.

12 oz can poured into a Destihl tulip.
5% ABV, 12 IBUs

A - Hazed through and through, this rich honey golden beer pours with a tall off-white head that, due to the high level of acidity, leaves with haste though that's certainly not to say it's lacking any carbonation.

S - Bold, acidic sourness gushes from this beer forcefully with a salty, spiced coriander follow-up that pleasantly tickles the olfactory. While primarily sour-focused, there's a nice balance of biscuity malt in the background to offer just a touch of sweetness and a lingering barnyard funkiness to it!

T - Biscuity malt offers a slight flash of sweetness before notes of spicy coriander and abundant sea salt take over to give it a true gose flavor. A lingering lemony citrus character transitions the flavor over into sourness in mouthfeel very well.

M - Medium-light in body, this beer doesn't feel thin on the tongue but due to it's higher level of acidity and sourness on the finish, goes down wonderfully with a carbonated, salty finish that compliment each other for balance.

O - Not only is Destihl's Wild Sour series exciting as some of the first sour beers in cans, but also because they're so readily available. What's even more exciting is that Here Gose Nothin' also happens to be damn good. Quite a bit more sour than a traditional gose, this iteration keeps it's flavor profile in line with some of the German classics for a delicious and crushable sour beer!

This one pours a murky orange that looks a heck of a lot like semi-crystallized honey. After a few moments, there was no head to speak of. I'm a little put off by the cloudiness.

Smells of fresh bread crusts and a touch of sour milk with a funky sourness holding it all together.

The sourness dominates the flavor, which is great. As I roll this around in my mouth, I notice that with my nose closed off, none of the nuances from the flavor come through, and its just tart raspberry and cranberry notes with a sweet (not dry at all) red grapefruit. When I let the smells drift past my soft pallet, I get the bread crust and sour milk, which is really quite fantastic. So, how do I rate this? Can I taste a smell?????? Bah, it's great.

Feels really clean with a gentle scrub of carbonation. Leaves my mouth just a little parched awaiting the next sip.

I would work this into my regular rotation if it wasn't $4 a can.

LOOK: A bit darker than usual for the style, this brew pours a medium to dark copper.

SMELL: Sour, stinky, slightly citrusy aroma.

TASTE: Tart and bready. Sour, musty lemon and bread. Slightly savory but negligible, the tart lactic sourness is running the show here. Quite good.

FEEL: Medium bodied, well carbonated, kind of chewey.

OVERALL: Really solid rendition of the style. Delivers on the sour promise. For being a canned product, this is really strong.

A: Uninspiring can art. Coarse white head, slightly cloudy dull orange, not much carbonation.

S: Distinct slightly burnt buttery popcorn. It's like I'm at the theater. Some sour citrus behind it.

T: The popcorn follows, but is preceded by sour lemon and lime. Some light wheat. No spice, buttery finish. What's going on?

M: Slightly gritty, light bodied. Definitely crisp.

O: Bad can? The off-notes were nearly overpowering, any decent flavors were a brief flash between weirdnesses.

12 oz can. Pours slightly hazy copper gold with a fizzy white head that quickly dissipates to a thin collar.

The aroma is sweet wheaty malts, some tart fruit and salt.

The flavor is sweet wheaty malt leading to very tart and lactic sour fruit with a touch of salt in the finish. The mouthfeel is a bit thin an watery.

Overall, interesting beer. I get a lot more tart sourness than salt or coriander.

Pours nice, looks nice, good aroma. Very crisp, I liked the salty bite. Unfortunately I found the sourness and acidity to be overpowering. It reminded me of bile, and I only made it about halfway through before surrendering. I tried to pawn it off on my girlfriend, who said she liked it at first, but when I made the reference to bile she made a face and set it down. Oops. In fairness, this was my first gose so maybe this style just isn't my thing. I just can't imagine how these strong vomit-like flavors could be considered pleasant or desirable though.

Brown in color with a very hazy complexion. There's a fingernail of brown around a quarter of the rim and about a third of the middle. The nose is pungent and loaded with coriander, sea salt, and lactic acid. I taste an aggressively assertive amount of sea salt and that actually keeps the coriander in check. The mouth is dense and acidic from the heavy dose of sea salt. My sinuses are clearing. Forget the neti pot, this will get the same result and is much preferable.
