Style: Berliner Weisse

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 3.00%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Lynnbrook, named after our founder's family farm, is a wild Berliner-Style Weisse with raspberries added, resulting in a very refreshing beer presenting with fuchsia color and an aroma reminiscent of picking tart red raspberries growing next to an old, abandoned barn, with the raspberry-lemony aroma giving way to hints of brie and barnyard funkiness. The flavor is absent of any hops or bitterness and instead has initial impressions of subtle lemon and yogurt supported by tart, fresh raspberries and underlying lactic sourness. The beer's dry finish helps cut through some sweetness from the fruit.

Served from tap in a tumbler at Firkin.

Many spoke highly of Destihl's sour program back in the day, so let's see just how right/wrong those commendations were. This stuff pours a clear amber topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises lightly dank raspberries (verging on blue raspberry at times) and sour white wine grapes. The taste brings in more of the same, the inherent sourness that was at best latent in the smell in full force, a situation aided by the addition of some lemon aspects. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry, sticky finish. Overall, a pretty enjoyable Berliner, one that doesn't allow the berries to overpower things. Thus far, the aforementioned praise seems mostly warranted...

12 fl oz. can, with some coded canning information printed on the bottom of the can along with "No Sleep Till Lynnbrook". As always there are duplicate entries for this beer because people don't know how to read; I'm posting my review here since this entry was added first. A new Wild Sour to me from Destihl Brewery, this one a Berliner Weissbier with raspberries.

Poured into a Unibroue La Fin Du Monde tulip glass.

A - It pours a nice pink-tinted reddish body (fuchsia per the can) with one finger of quickly dissipating pink-white tinted head. Not much head retention, and no lacing to speak of. Looks nice for what it is, regardless.

S - Aroma is good; nice citrusy sour / tartness. The berry / raspberry fruitiness is present, but for the most part indistinct; I might not know it was raspberry without being told. Some bacterial / yeastiness present on the finish.

T - Taste follows the nose: good citrusy sour / tartness. Clean natural fruity raspberries are present. Not quite as sour as their other Berliner, Destihl Brewery Counter Clockweisse. What it lacks in terms of sour compared to that beer though, it makes up for with authentic juicy raspberry.

M - The feel is sour & tart. A yeasty / bacterial finish. Crisp & tart. Refreshing and easy-drinking.

Overall, another excellent sour in this series from Destihl. I continue to look forward to more.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 8/31/2016. Pours pinkish golden/orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light pink head with solid retention, that reduces to a small cap that eventually reduces to nothing. Minimal lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour raspberry, lemon, lime, green apple, white grape, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, light lacto funk/vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, raspberries, and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour raspberry, lemon, lime, green apple, white grape, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, light lacto funk/vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of fruity/lactic sourness and tangy berry tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour raspberry, lemon, lime, green apple, white grape, hay, straw, light lacto funk/vinegar, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, raspberries, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a good malt/sourness balance; fairly puckering, but no lingering astringency after the finish. Medium carbonation and light bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, dry, acidic, and lightly grainy mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 3%. Overall this is a great fruited Berliner weisse. All around Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, raspberries, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink; despite the high lactic acidity. A very enjoyable offering.

Amber with a pink highlight. There's a fingernail of dishwater white resting on top. The aroma is intensely artificial raspberry and pale wheat. The flavor is bitter raspberries (think Sweet Tarts) and pale wheat. The mouth is moderately carbonated.

Destihl continues to knock those sours out of the park ! If you like raspberries and sour beers then you'll enjoy this brew. Here's the deal . . . So far this my least favorite in the wild sour series and I was still compelled to rate this a solid 4.

Poured a cloudy pinkish red color with a one finger bubbly white head. Overall impression of appearance is of a good fruit Berliner Weisse, true to the body and head the style with the addition of the color of raspberries. Scents of tart raspberries, lactic acid sourness, a mild barnyard funk and slight notes of lemon. Overall impression of flavor is of a bright fruit Berliner Weisse that keeps the core of the style while bringing in pleasant fruit flavors. Flavor begins highly sour with notes of tart raspberries mingling with lactic sourness and lemon. Middle continues notes of lactic sourness and tart raspberries and lemon. Finish is tart lending notes of tart raspberries, lactic sourness and yoghurt and notes of lemon. Aftertaste begins with tart raspberries and lactic sourness before giving way to grainy, cracker-like wheat malt. Overall impression of flavor is of a very nice fruit Berliner Weisse, true to style. Mouthfeel is light bodied and puckering with high, effervescent carbonation. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a true to form Berliner Weisse. Overall this is a fantastic Berliner Weisse. It keeps the core of the style but layers on raspberries to create a tart, crisp, refreshing beer. Excellent.
