I was really impressed with finish the rye taste on the front end is not overwelming which I really like.
You can smell the rye whiskey in the glass. The chocolate undertones are right on!

Like someone said ealier it really pours well and very good balance.

Thanks for making this

A - Pours pitch black with a thin tan head. Very light soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is dark chocolate, caramel, rye and whiskey barrel.

T - The taste is dark chocolate, vanilla, molasses, charred oak, spicy rye and a good amount of whiskey barrel.

M - Full body with medium carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel with a soft crisp finish.

O - Really solid. Rye whiskey barrel really pops in the taste and aroma.

Very pretty pour. Deep black color. Nice head, it did fizzle quickly, but made a lot of noise doing so, cute.

You can smell the malty sweetness that you will taste soon.

Delicious. Certainly a sipper. Beautiful blend of flavors. Almost too sweet, but not quite.

Expensive, but first class.

Pint can, canned on 11/7/22, 13.6% ABV, poured at 53° into an oversized brandy snifter.
Deep black brew raised a dark brown head that fizzed down in moments.
Aroma of rye barrel jumps right out the glass, followed by classic Russian Imperial Stout; roasty malt, date, dark chocolate.
Destihl has a great base Stout. The character and strength of rye barreling takes this RIS to new heights of flavor, the barrel lending a smoky and peppery glide. Finishes long and beautifully dry.
Feel is heavy as a dump truck, medium to high carbonation lets the brew dance about the palate.
Overall, a most excellent treatment of a fantastic base brew.

Most distinctive rye flavor of any beer I’ve tried. Rye barrel dominates the taste. Rye, oak, vanilla, toffee, fig, chocolate, tobacco, molasses, malt, char, ethanol sweetness, a bit of spicy floral hops bitterness, alcohol warming. Rye lovers will adore this for sure.

After having the OG. I am really looking forward to this variant. The dark walnut head is short lived, even for 1/2” of fine dense foam. As a thin ring forms, spotty lace marks where it had one been. The RIS itself is jet black in a Pretentious Glass Co. Imperial Snifter.

The aroma is intensely rich and decadent, with a strong mix of whiskey (Rye I suppose) and dark roasted malt. Sweet dark chocolate fudge follows. Oak and vanilla have a refined quality as accents rather than primary contributions. Progression leads to molasses, peat, and light smoke, all of which are layered accents along the way.

Happily, the aroma translates beautifully into the flavor. Bitterness and sweetness are in equal proportion and appropriate for the style. The rich saturated flavors are amazing. The Rye is a bit strong, yet still under control due to the intensity of the other components. Warmth elevates the roasted malt, faint marshmallow, and alcohol heat. The finish is long and drying.

A slick velvet texture works well with the very full, almost dense body. Fine carbonation adds effervescence and a light scrubbing. While the alcohol is definitely high and has a little heat when at room temperature, it lacks bite. Given this bottle is labeled as 13.6% abv, that is impressive.

This was my reward after initial clean-up from a small, yet destructive windstorm that ripped through. We toasted the sad loss of many trees and relaxed in a few moments of comforting decadence. I recommend skipping the storm and enjoying this with deep conversation or a book, better yet fireside on a cool, crisp evening.

This is the 2019 release, consumed on 12-18-2022

Pitch black pour. The head is dark brown. It looked almost nitro like when pouring from the can. 3 finger head. The retention is crazy long for a 12.5% beer. Almost no lacing on the glass.
Strong barrel notes in this beer. I get notes of oak, chocolate, caramel, toffee and vanilla in the aroma.
This beer starts out slightly bitter, probably from the rye barrels used. This beer hen it mellows and smooths out fast. The chocolate comes on strong and lingers. I get lots of coffee flavors, along with caramel, toffee, and vanilla. Lots of barrel in this beer.
The body is thick, full and smooth. This beer does also let you know right off that it's a big boy with a bit of an alcohol burn, this doesn't linger.
This is a very well made BA RIS, and I'm so happy I bought it.

I was a little shocked when I got home and saw I paid $12.99 for a 16 oz. can of this. I think in the store I saw $2.99 and thought, no brainer. Well now it had better be good, and it turns out it is exceptional.

I poured with a huge head and nice fizz. The aroma gives away a huge roasted alcoholic taste that follows, with just a hint of whiskey barrel aging taste. Truly a great balance. The finish is sweet, thick, roasty and bitter, and it lingers. This will be a tough act to follow (I don't aim to drink any other alcoholic beverages today).

Recommended. It is a poor value but an outstanding brew. Probably one of the best ever of this style.

Pours black with almost no head and no lacing.

Taste s of rich toasted malt, earthy dark chocolate mixed with a bit of spiciness and very mild bitterness. The barrel is present and has an alcohol/vanilla mixed in - very nice.

Definitely agree this is up there with Bourbon County Stout. The mouthfeel is thick. The flavor is very good. Able to pick some up for 4.99 for a 16oz. can. Fantastic bargain for a BBA stout as this. Get some if you see it. They were sitting around all year for $14.99 each. Then they decided to put them on the reduced shelf.

Dark brown almost totally black, creamy and persistent beige foam.
Very intense and elegant aroma, chocolate fudge, dark fruit such as cherry and plum, light coffee base and light spices, vanilla, wood, and lots of bourbon.
On the palate there is everything that is expected after the olfactory analysis. Sweet and greedy entry dried by a generous abv and decisive toasting. Final with moderate dryness and bitterness with a slight note of ash.
Medium-full body and fine and low carbnation.
