Pours a deep amber with tan head and very sticky lacing. Smells of strong hops, malt, caramel, and citrus. The taste is very bitter hoppy tones, this sucker has both bitterness and alcohol bite to it so its not for the light hearted. Getting a lot of hops, malty sweetness, grapefruit, and alcohol. This is a medium to heavy beer with a lingering bite to it. Would pare this with a good steak or other meaty meal, not for an empty stomach. Overall a nice beer but it could be a little more easy to drink, to me it was way hop heavy.

I tried this beer at the midwest brewfest in Plainfield. The beer poured a cloudy, dark red/amber off-white head and some lacing. Smells of strong hops and sweet malt. Fits the style of an American Double / Imperial IPA. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp with an average carbonation level. A very strong bitterness present. Tastes of strong hops (citrus and floral), sweet malt, hint of alcohol, and slight dark citrus. Overall, strong body, but not complex at all.

Pours an effervescent orange/crimson with a thumb of cream colored head. Stellar head retention & very nice lacing

S: Toasty & herbal hops, & some boozeyness once warm

T: Woody hops, toastyness, biscuitty hops, with a little bit of red grape/cherry up front.? Herbal & woody hops with a little cakeyness, pine & a little grapefruit as this warms, plus toastyness. Finishes dry, toasty with herbal hops, bready with a little toffee, a whisper of pine & booze too

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation nice balance, warming as well

Drinks pretty easy, a nice take on the style

Appears a semi-transparent copper toned amber with a small, off white head that fades into a soapy collar. Scattered bits of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of caramel, vanilla, ripe fruit, pine, and citrus.
Taste is of caramel, brown sugar, molasses, candy sugar, and sticky hops with standout flavors of pine, orange, and grapefruit.
Mouthfeel is sticky, sugary, with caramel, and bitters fighting it out to a very well balanced brew.

Pours a clear copper/amber mix with a nice fluffy two finger beige head that falls oh so slow and laces well.

Aroma is big chewy caramel malts with some fruity hops underneath with a light spicy kick maybe from the alcohol or the yeast. Smells like a nice red but since its an IPA Imperial red know it down a few points for not being hoppy enough smelling.

Taste is nice like a big chewy red lots of caramel malts with some deep fruity notes even some tobacco notes. Lingering deep hop bitterness from the hops there not bright but they are there. Good flavors big and chewy like a good old or strong ale. Favorable beer just not what I would call an Imperial IPA but I like it.

Mouthfeel is big and chewy but body is only a big medium with middle of the road carbonation.

Overall I like this beer think I would remove the IPA part and just call it a big ass red ale myself but its enjoyable.

Heavily malty Imperial Red. Not sure why it isn't a tad higher on the reviews. I think many of this style push the hops to the limit where this one is maltier than most but still a very nice beverage.

On-tap @ Three Cellars, Franklin, WI:

Pours dark ruby with a thin wisp:

The smell is of pine and caramel with some cherry-like fruitiness.

The taste upfront is of pine/resin bitterness quickly followed by sweet caramel/toffee. Cherry wood weaves in and out. Booze shows in the sweet-leaning finish.

It hits full-bodied, but not thick. Residual sugars linger on the lips.

This is a well-made "double" red. It has a strong red ale malt with a noticeable hop presence. An enjoyable "sipper"!

Pours a clear, copper color. 5/4 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of strong earthy hops, spicy hops, hint of pine, strong sweet malt, alcohol, tea, hint of candy sugar, and a hint of wood. Fits the style of an American Double / Imperial IPA. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. There is also a strong dryness. Tastes of strong sweet malt, sugar, earthiness, alcohol, strong resin, caramel malt, hint of tea, and spicy hops. Overall, sweet, strong body and aroma, great appearance.
