Here's the thing, I like Franziskaner, it is my measuring stick for Hefes. A few Germans have come close, and as I haven't had a chance to try Live Oak's Hefe yet, none of the American Hefes I've tried have lived up to what I look for. Time after time I find something with too much hops, very little banana and clove, or just a weird spice that I can't identify.

Destihl makes that not true anymore. I wouldn't say in the giant world of wheat beers this is a standout. To ME, a Franziskaner lover who is looking for something made in the US that is even close, this stuff is top notch.

Trust me, if you're a "Americans can't make hefes correctly" person like me and this is available, give it a whirl.

L: Pours hazy gold under a ½” white foam cap that completely disappears in less than a minute.
S: Very bready, grainy nose, hints of fruit, not a lot of banana or clove.
T: a wheaty palate with a mild banana flavor and a faint hint of clove. There is light wheat tartness on the finish.
F: Medium light body – a little thin, medium high carbonation.
O: A decent beer but I expect a little more creaminess and character in a hefeweizen.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours hazy straw with no head or lacing. Nose of banana, vanilla, and wheat. Taste is banana and vanilla with grassy wheat on the back end. No yeast or spice notes in the taste whatsoever. Light body and medium carbonation and with some stickiness to it.
I like hef's, but this was more fruit beer than hef. I finished it but won't be getting it again. The banana presence was impressive but little else developed beyond the banana.

Poured a cloudy golden color with a half finger bubbly white head. Overall impression of appearance is of a fantastic body, but a terrible head for the style. A mixed bag. Scents of grainy, cracked-like, tangy wheat malt, orange flesh and peel, and moderate phenols of clove with overripe banana in the background. Overall impression of aroma is of a good, but not standout Hefeweizen. True to form but not amazing. Flavor begins with notes of grainy, cracker-like wheat, orange flesh sweetness, dry phenolic notes of clove, banana, and an unfortunate presence of DMS. Middle continues these flavors but increases citrus. Finish is dry with notes of citrus peel and flesh, banana, clove phenols and again, a bit of DMS. Aftertaste is grainy wheat malt and a clove presence. Overall impression of flavor is of a good Hefeweizen unfortunately brought down by the DMS. Mouthfeel is light bodied and creamy with effervescent carbonation. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a good Hefeweiznen. Overall this is a good Hefeweizen that could be great if not for the DMS in flavor. The aroma and flavor are quite nice, but the DMS corn flavor is unwelcome and brings it down. Mouthfeel raises it up, it overall it is only good, not great.

Pours a very effervescent & clear gold with 3 fingers of beige head. No head retention & minimal lacing & little chill haze

S: Breadyness, cloves

T: Follows the nose, some pear & white grape, plus band-aids up front. Cloves, white grapes, a little lemon & pear as this warms. Finishes fruity with a little clove

MF: Light/medium body, subtle carbonation

Drinks very easy, could use a little more depth of flavor, but I would buy this again

Poor head retention. Appropriate color. Smells of banana and clove and mild grains. Flavor is subdued yet spot on with an emphasis on wheat. Finishes clean and dry. Very good summer beer.

A thanks to the amazing woodychandler for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of bananas, wheat. Taste is the same, banana and wheat, some yeast, refreshing and hihly drinkable. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a good quality beer.

Sampled today at the brewpub.

Pale and cloudy orange body. Plenty of visible carbonation moving through the beer. Spotty lace around the edges, consistent foam.

Mellow banana and wheat aroma. A little bit more spice could make it even better. It has a clean freshness about it too.

Creamy body, light to medium in weight, with a good dose of banana and light citrus too. Dry finish with a touch of sweetness. Overall very clean and easy drinking, a good summer session candidate!

A: The beer is very hazy yellow in color and has a moderate to high amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a two finger high white head that quickly faded away, leaving only some small patches of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of bananas and bubble gum are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, having flavors of bananas and bubble gum along with additional notes of cloves and wheat towards the finish.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer tastes OK, but it could use a lot of work with head retention.

Nice hazy, pale gold beer with a white head. Light smell of bananas and yeast with a touch of clove. The flavors seem a bit muted and mostly a pleasant banana flavor with a decent amount of malty sweetness. Finishes with nice yeasty notes and a little bitterness. Nice and mellow hefeweizen that is great on a nice hot day.

Weissenheimer pours to a large pebbly white head on a hazy, effervescent pale-gold body; head retention is modest and lacing is very scant, consisting of a few very strangely-angled hieroglyphs. The nose is medium in intensity; it is yeast-forward with hints of banana/clove spice, a modest citrus character and a bit of wheat. The ester notes that are lacking on the nose hit up front on the palate, impressively so, but quickly fade, ceding dominance to a tartish citrus flavor shot through with faint veins of caramel apple, all over a largely-obscured, muddy wheat foundation. The finish is a fair hit of tart caramel; the linger is a tart apple flavor that lasts for a few minutes. Mouthfeel is on point for the light body, and is, surprisingly, slightly astringent; the texture is medium-creamy and quite peppery from the slightly overenthusiastic carbonation. (12 oz can, no code date)
