Pours a hazy light Amber color. Aroma reminds me of banana nut crunch cereal. Flavor is similar to the nose with a semi sweet malty finish. Drinks pretty smooth and overall this is solid but nothing special. If the flavor didn't remind me of breakfast as a kid I probably wouldn't like this very much.

Pretty average(if that)hefe....carbonation is lacking..looks real flat in the glass....real sweet overripe (spoiled almost) banana taste...light butterscotch....drinkable but would not buy again. And I like Banana forward hefe's.

The past few weeks have seen a reduction of the bottle backlog here at Chez Woody at the expense of The CANQuest (tm). It has also been at the expense of my beloved AIPAs and DIPAs in favor of flavors & styles that I generally eschew. Here we have just such a style & from a CAN! Will wonders never cease?

From the CAN: "South German-Style Wheat Ale"; "Unfiltered [,] Enjoy Fresh [,] Keep Refrigerated"; "Support Flavor - Boycott Bland (tm)"; "Need a break from all the smart alecks in your life? You'll get the last laugh as you kick back and relax with this seriously enjoyable & refreshing South German-style Hefeweizen. This wheat ale has a hazy, straw-colored hue with classic banana-like & clove-like aromas and flavors with very low hop bitterness and a full mouthfeel without being full of itself. No joke. Cheers."

I Crack!ed open, revealing a brimful craft CAN and to celebrate, I utilized an inverted Glug. This produced a brief finger of fizzy, light-tan head with poor retention. Color was a slightly hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7), but just hazy enough to make the Gelt Gang want to take a pass. Nose smelled heavily of bananas. Where are the cloves?!? Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was definitely Hefeweizen, but it was heavy on the banana esters as usual and that is not a selling point for me. I liked the way the clove esters asserted themselves on the finish, but it was not enough to be satisfying.

A thanks to the amazing woodychandler for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of bananas, wheat. Taste is the same, banana and wheat, some yeast, refreshing and hihly drinkable. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a good quality beer.

Poured a cloudy golden color with a half finger bubbly white head. Overall impression of appearance is of a fantastic body, but a terrible head for the style. A mixed bag. Scents of grainy, cracked-like, tangy wheat malt, orange flesh and peel, and moderate phenols of clove with overripe banana in the background. Overall impression of aroma is of a good, but not standout Hefeweizen. True to form but not amazing. Flavor begins with notes of grainy, cracker-like wheat, orange flesh sweetness, dry phenolic notes of clove, banana, and an unfortunate presence of DMS. Middle continues these flavors but increases citrus. Finish is dry with notes of citrus peel and flesh, banana, clove phenols and again, a bit of DMS. Aftertaste is grainy wheat malt and a clove presence. Overall impression of flavor is of a good Hefeweizen unfortunately brought down by the DMS. Mouthfeel is light bodied and creamy with effervescent carbonation. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a good Hefeweiznen. Overall this is a good Hefeweizen that could be great if not for the DMS in flavor. The aroma and flavor are quite nice, but the DMS corn flavor is unwelcome and brings it down. Mouthfeel raises it up, it overall it is only good, not great.

Pours a hazy amber color with a fizzy white head that blooms extravagantly before disappearing completely--not quite the retention I’m used to in a hefeweizen. Mild aroma smells of wheat, lemon rind, and a gentle, lactic sourness.

The taste is more in line with traditional expectations, featuring wheat, banana, and clove primarily. Bready malt and rumors of bubblegum are also discernible. Medium body and high carbonation make for a crisp and refreshing mouthfeel.

Overall, this is a solid but unremarkable hefeweizen. The flavors are there, but the presentation leaves something to be desired, which wouldn’t be such a downer if we were talking about another style. A hefeweizen just isn’t the same without an omnipresent mound of silky froth, though.
